It’s been an interesting journey to the VHL for Theo Axelsson.  Ever since he first started playing in the VHLM, Axelsson has been considered one of the league’s future stars, and the hype seemed to reach its highest point when he was drafted second overall by the Calgary Wranglers and named alternate captain.  We’re nearing the end of the first week of Season 50, the Wranglers have been generally unimpressive so far, and the hype seems to have died down as the young Swede has failed to carry over his impressive performances in the VHLM.  So what’s next?
Patience is key for Wranglers fans.  With prospects like Lahey, Klingberg, Doughty, Akerfeldt, Gowecny, and the aforementioned Axelsson, Calgary is one of the younger teams in the league - and even their important older players (Weinstein, Hyvarinen, Hines) still have a good three years left in their careers.  From the looks of it, the playoffs will start to open up just as the young core of Calgary hits their stride.  And while he hasn’t reached his potential yet, one thing to take notice of his Axelsson’s hit totals - despite producing under a point per game, the winger has 49 hits in nine games.
