Saskatoon Wild unfortunately did not make it into playoffs this year. That of course means that my season ended few weeks ago, but that has not stopped me from enjoying the playoff games. I decided to go and visit my cousin Jorma Ruutu in Davos and follow their journey in the playoffs. I´m living in Jorma´s guest room during my stay in Davos and I must admit that it has been a fun little trip so far. I have seen all of the Davos home games in the playoffs so far and on top of that, I can see how professional athletes live every day by following what Jorma does during his free time.

Not sure if it´s the age or what, but from what I have seen, he barely gets out of the house. Just takes it easy on the living room couch and either plays video games or watches something. To be totally honest, I´m like that too. Quite often after a long day you want to take it easy and relax. Might not sound like much, but getting up early in the morning and then working out for few hours is tough. Then on some days you might have a workout session in the evening too, on top of that there is traveling that you have to do if you don´t live near the practice rink or wherever the team is practicing in. When you put all that together, end of the day, you feel tired. Then there is obviously the days when you have a game, those days start early too and the away game tours, damn.

We have to travel little bit here and there in the VHLM, but not as nearly as much some of these VHL teams.  In my opinion the teams who prepare well for the away games, are the ones who quite often play in the finals. Differences between the teams are small and if you can win both at home and away, you will have a chance to be successful in the VHL.

I think we can see evidence of that in the ongoing VHL playoffs, all the teams have to play away too and taking a win at a point where you maybe might not be expected to do so can switch the whole momentum to your teams side.

Davos have been playing quite well away in the playoffs so far, they have won 4 out of the last 5 away games and they have a solid chance to go all the way to finals! Jorma Ruutu is leading the whole league in scoring so far in the playoffs by the way, not bad from a old guy who has announced his retirement from the game.  He has played few games more than the Quebec players behind him, so it will be interesting to see if he manages to hold that leading scorer position and more importantly, can Davos make it into finals and perhaps even win the cup? That would be hell of a way to end your career in the VHL!
