TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Here we are, we are just over halfway of the Season 1 VHL Dispersal Draft. The Seattle Everblades is the team I will be covering today. Let's get started. 1st Round, 5th Overall: Right Wing Alex Watson Career Regular Season Stats: 432 GP | 306 G | 295 A | 601 P Career Playoff Stats: 43 GP | 28 G | 25 A | 53 P Alex Watson was the 5th player chosen in the Season 1 Dispersal Draft. He proved he was more than capable of being a star in the league. He played in 432 games, scoring 306 goals and assisting on 295 goals for 601 points. He was equally as good in the playoffs with 28 goals and 25 assists in 53 games. He is one of probably a handful of player to score more goals than to assist on goals in both the Regular Season and Playoffs. He won the Continental Cup 3 times in his career, 2 with the Calgary Wranglers as back to back champs and 1 in Season 6 with the Helsinki Titans. It is a shame that he didn't make the Hall of Fame because he certainly belongs in my opinion. 2nd Round, 12th Overall: Center Tyler Toews Career Regular Season Stats: 431 GP | 91 G | 160 A | 251 P Career Playoffs Stats: 17 GP | 4 G | 6 A | 10 P Tyler Toews was picked at 12th overall with the intention that he would be the franchise number 1 center. Unfortunately, he was not a number 1 center. He was more suited to a 2nd line center. He played in 431 games, scoring 91 goals and assisting on 160 assists for 251 points. Very good 2nd line numbers in my opinion. He was also great in the playoffs. In the 17 games he played in the post season, he scored 4 goals and assisted on 6 for 10 points. He was not the number 1 center we imagined he would be but he was serviceable. 3rd Round, 21st Overall: Goaltender Tyler Vassell Career Regular Season Stats: 101 GP | 38 W | 46 L | 7 OTL | 0.881 SV% | 3.82 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Career Playoff Stats: 4 GP | 0 W | 4 L | 0 OTL | 0.871 SV% | 5.27 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Tyler Vassell was supposed to be the franchise goalie. Key word is supposed to be. He didn't pan out at all and was nothing more than a good back-up or a starter on bad teams. He had a record of 38-46-7 with a 0.881 save percentage and a 3.82 G.A.A with no shutouts and no assists. As you can see the save percentage and G.A.A is pretty damn ugly. It gets worse in the playoffs as he went 0-4-0 with a 0.871 save percentage and a 5.27 G.A.A. In his defense, he had to face the 69-3-0 Calgary Wranglers in the Season 1 playoffs. Not a franchise goaltender though. 4th Round, 28th Overall: Defenseman Danny Tremblay Career Regular Season Stats: 576 GP | 148 G | 438 A | 586 P Career Playoff Stats: 49 GP | 8 G | 30 A | 38 P Here we have Danny Tremblay who was taken 28th overall. It is safe to say the Everblades got a great franchise defenseman in the 4th round. Danny played in 576 games, scoring 148 goals and assisting on 438 goals for 586 points. He was also very good in the playoffs scoring 8 goals and assisting on 30 for 38 points in 49 games. He is a 3 time champion winning back to back in Season 4 and 5 then again in Season 7. One could make an argument that he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I agree with said arguments but that is an article for another day. 5th Round, 37th Overall: Left Wing Stevin Morin Career Regular Season Stats: 353 GP | 110 G | 185 A | 295 P Career Playoff Stats: 8 GP | 3 G | 5 A | 8 P Steven Morin was a great selection in the 5th round to be honest. He played in 353 games, scoring 110 goals and assisting on 185 goals for 295 points. That is boarder line 1st line numbers. He didn't make the playoffs that often but when he did he was a point per game player. He only played in 8 games and scored 3 goals and 5 assists. Morin may have possibly retired a bit too early considering the success he had found. He was one of the best depth players in the earl VHL era. 6th Round, 44th Overall: Goaltender Sam Martin Career Regular Season Stats: 103 GP | 31 W | 54 L | 7 OTL | 0.876 SV% | 4.47 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Career Playoff Stats: 5 GP | 1 W | 3 L | 1 OTL | 0.865 SV% | 4.39 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Not only did the Everblades miss on one goalie but two goalies in one draft. Sam Martin was planned to be the starter to push Vassell for playing time but he was just as bad as Vassell. He had a career record of 31-54-7 with a 0.876 save percentage and a 4.47 G.A.A with no shutouts and no assists. He made the playoffs once in his career and managed a record of 1-3-1 with a 0.865 save percentage and a 4.39 G.A.A. His stats aren't much better than Vassell but what can you do. Unlucky for Seattle that neither worked out. 7th Round, 53rd Overall: Defenseman Waldo Cezar Career Regular Season Stats: 144 GP | 17 G | 77 A | 94 P Career Playoff Stats: 4 GP | 0 G | 1 A | 1 P Last we have Waldo Cezar who was Seattle's last pick in this draft. He was not all that bad to be honest but he just didn't play that long. He played 2 seasons and put up 17 goals and 77 assists for 94 points in 144 games. Not very bad numbers at all. His playoff numbers are minimal because the Everblades played ht powerhouse Wranglers in Season 1. He only had 1 assist in 4 games. Cezar might have been a better pick had he played more than 2 seasons as he was ding decent as a depth defenseman. Conclusion: In the end, the Everblades hit on only two players in the form of winger Alex Watson and defenseman Danny Tremblay. Steven Morin was so close and an argument can be made that he is but in the end, I went against putting him as a hit. 1. Calgary Wranglers - 5/8 = 62.5% 2. Hamilton Canucks - 3/7 = 42.9 % 3. Amstel Tigers - 3/8 = 37.5% 4. Helsinki Titans - 2/7 = 28.5% 5. Seattle Everblades - 2/7 = 28.5% Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/34692-claimed6-points-pls-part-5-reviewed/ Share on other sites
Mr. Hickey 128
Review: Loving the series so far, very interesting that so many teams had such shit drafts. I guess it kinda shows when you look at the Season 1 standing and see Calgary going 69-3. I like how informative these articles are and that you bring your own perspective into it. Good grammar and I didn't see any spelling mistakes. Job well done.
