jRuutu 2,475
All-star weekends are always great events. You get to see some of the best players on ice playing against each other and usually there is skill competitions and other events during the weekend, so for a fan of hockey, All-star weekend is a must watch. Or is it? This year things did not happen so smoothly. The big people of VHL came out early with a date for the actual game, but then for some reason the weekend was rescheduled. Naturally quite few were left wondering what is going on. I was no different, I was bit worried that something scary might be behind the decision to play the game on a different day, maybe a terrorist group was planning to attack the arena or could there be something else, perhaps the ticket sale numbers were really low and the people behind the scenes decided to get extra time to sell the tickets by rescheduling the whole thing? When something unexpected happens, there is a good chance people are interested to find out what is going on and some might even buy tickets now that the All-star weekend has been a hot topic around the hockey world for the past week or two. Someone once said there is no such thing as bad publicity. Nobody knows for sure what is going on behind the scenes, but I´m at least 90% sure the reason to rescheduling is to do with money. The owners of the league want to get more money and the first step is to get people to buy more tickets. Personally I think that is low move and I´m thinking about boycotting the whole game now. I was not going to buy a ticket to go and see the game anyways since I live in Saskatoon and the game is played so far away. I´m not even sure where its played, but I bet its really far away. Boycotting the game in my case means not watching it from TV, but unfortunately there is more to this story, I have heard rumors about owners of the league allowing every team in the VHL and in the VHLM to add sponsors logo into their jersey. That might not sound too bad, but its not going to just stop at one logo, soon there will be five logos allowed. Owners of the league will get a cut of every sponsorship deal made, so its easy to see why they would allow sponsors logos added into the jerseys. Somebody might be wondering where I heard a rumor like that? Well, I´m doing little modeling on the side, mostly underwear modeling, but anyways, one of the brands I´m modeling for approached me and asked if they could start sponsoring Saskatoon? I did not know what to say, so I just told them to contact the GM of Saskatoon and go from there. I have a meeting with the GM tomorrow, so something is going on for sure. In general hockey is getting more commercialised than ever before, All-star weekend is proof of that. It still provides a lot of enjoyment for the fans, but I´m not sure if the league is going to right direction when they try to maximize the profits by moving the whole thing. I think boycotting the whole event is the right thing to do. Will 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/34940-claimedwhat-is-really-going-on/ Share on other sites
