TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Here we are again with the Season 2 VHL Entry Draft, the Calgary Wranglers held picks 7, 15, 20 and 39 after finishing 1st in the league but losing in the Continental Cup finals. Round 1, Pick 7 - Defenseman Sterling Labatte @sterling Career Reg. Season Stats: 648 GP | 210 G | 562 A | 772 P Career Playoff Stats: 79 GP | 24 G | 59 A | 83 P How does the best defenseman ever fall to 7th overall? This is a question we will have to ask for entirety of the Victory Hockey League. Sterling Labatte played in 648 games scoring 210 goals and assisting on 562 goals for 772 points in his career. Those are some amazing stats and to think he was a defenseman. Sterling also played in 79 playoff games scoring 24 goals and assisting on 59 goals for 83 points. Again, these are some top notch stats. We can ask ourselves until our brain explodes how the best defenseman ever fell to 7th overall. The only team who is not questioning it is the Calgary Wranglers who will forever be Sterling Labatte's home and the only team he ever laced them up for. Round 2, Pick 15 - Defenseman Tommy Brown @Smarch Career Reg. Season Stats: 192 GP | 27 G | 114 A | 141 P Career Playoff Stats: 33 GP | 4 G | 19 A | 23 P This guy here is a hard one to judge to be honest. Tommy Brown had a nice career with 192 games played with 27 goals and 114 assists for 141 points. He also had a very good post season career with 33 games played, 4 goals and 19 assists for 23 points. He won a Championship in Season 1, 2 and 3 with Vasteras IK and the Calgary Wranglers. However, his career was so short that I don't know if you can call him a hit. At the end of this article I will decide. Round 3, Pick 20 (via Toronto) - Goaltender Joseph Baker Career Reg. Season Stats: 83 GP | 62 W | 16 L | 2 OTL | 0.884 SV% | 2.56 G.A.A | 4 SO | 0 A Career Playoff Stats: 5 GP | 2 W | 2 L | 0 OTL | 0.868 SV% | 4.69 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Next we have the curious case of Joseph Baker who was supposed to be the franchise goaltender for the Wranglers. However, it was not meant to be but he did put up a good win loss record as he did play a great Calgary team. He put u a record of 62-16-2 with a 0.884 save percentage and a 2.56 G.A.A. He also put up 4 shutouts. Was he good or was he just good because he played on the Calgary Wranglers? my money is on the latter. Round 5, Pick 39 - Right Wing Edward Eldred Career Reg. Season Stats: 360 GP | 145 G | 218 A | 363 P Career Playoff Stats: 28 GP | 8 G | 23 A | 31 P With one of the best last round picks in the Entry Drafts, the Wranglers took Edward Eldred with the 2nd last pick in the Season 2 Draft. He played in 360 games, scoring 145 goals and assising on 218 goals for 363 points. He played in 28 playoff games scoring 8 goals and assisting on 23 goals for 31 points. He was a champion in Season 2 and 3. He has a reputation though of being a sore loser so there is that but the talent was there for sure. Conclusion I would say that the Wranglers hit on 3/4 of these picks because they were all apart of the championships they won in Season 2 and 3. Season 2 Draft: 1. Calgary Wranglers - 3/4 = 75% 2. Avangard Havoc - 1/5 = 20% All Time Team Drafts: 1. Calgary Wranglers - 8/12 = 66.7% 2. Hamilton Canucks - 3/7 = 42.9% 3. Vasteras IK - 2/5 = 40.0% 4. Amstel Tigers/Avangard Havoc = 4/13 = 30.8% 5. Helsinki Titans - 2/7 = 28.5% 6. Seattle Bears - 2/7 = 28.5% 7. Stockholm Thunder - 2/7 = 28.5% 8. Toronto Legion - 1/7 = 14.3% All Time Drafts: Season 1 Draft: 20/36 = 35.7% Season 2 Draft: 4/9 = 44.4% sterling 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/35665-claimed6-points-pls-part-10/ Share on other sites
Guest
Holy shit, the VHL had drafts into 5 rounds? Color me shocked. If it were me (since I wouldn't have the concentration to keep it up), I'd be doing these by season. Would be cool to see: - Your article read like "Elway to Marino" for S2 - Your 590 explaining the trend of the all-time standings changing per draft. Kind of gives a "power ranking" of teams by future success Approved!
