Could this be Axelsson's breakout season?

The Season 50 draft was one of the last drafts before the “Player 2” initiative began, and it was headlined by an impressive group of forwards, most notably Diana Maxwell and Theo Axelsson - two elite prospects that were expected to be future VHL stars.  While it’s still early in the careers of these two players, both are yet to make a major impact yet.  Maxwell, however, looks primed to be a frontrunner for the Funk Trophy (most improved) for the upcoming season after only managing a surprising 36 points in Season 51; the new-look Americans forward group seems set to help with that.

But what about Axelsson?  The Swedish two-way forward hasn’t been terrible thus far, but he’s also yet to finish above a point per game.  With Calgary’s big-name free agent signings becoming the major contributors, Axelsson struggled to make an impact on offense.  But with the departure of Unassisted through free agency and the team’s decreased cap space, a spot on the first line has opened up for him.  Reports are saying that Axelsson has been impressing coaches in practice this offseason.  Given his total of nearly 600 hits in just 2 VHL seasons, it seems like he’ll add an important physical presence that may have been missing last season.  But with a more competitive North American Conference this season, only time will tell if Axelsson will be a key player for the Wranglers this season.

Funnily enough I changed my funk predictions three times - when with Rodriguez, then you, then finally decided that it would have to be Maxwell.

 

Only because I think you'll both put up insane point totals (80s or more) but Maxwell was way more of a pile of shit that you last season with your 65 points. What did he have, 36? That was the deal-breaker for me

Yeah, I completely agree.  Getting around 80 points in a season after scoring 36 pretty much makes Maxwell a lock for the Funk.  Plus I don't think Axelsson's been that bad, just more average than anything.

At least it doesn't change the fact that you're hopefully about to have an amazing season. That's an exciting prospect!
