A new week, a new team, here we are looking at our third team of the Season 2 VHL Entry Draft. This team is the Hamilton Canucks who were awarded the 2nd overall pick.

Round 1, Pick 2 - Right Wing Guillaume Lantendresse

Career Reg. Season Stats: 507 GP | 271 G | 380 A | 651 P

Career Playoff Stats: 31 GP | 15 G | 16 A | 31 P

Guillaume Latendresse was the 2nd player ever to be drafted 2nd overall. He had a very solid career with 507 games played, 271 goals and 380 assists for 651 points. He even was a point per game player in the playoffs with 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points. He was a very good 2nd overall pick it just happened to be in one of the best scoring eras in the VHL so he never truly got recognized as such. It's a shame he was stuck on some bad teams throughout his career as well.

Round 2, Pick 9 (via Avangardthrough Helsinki) - Right Wing Shawn Crowley

Career Reg. Season Stats: 576 GP | 204 G | 397 A | 601 P

Career Playoff Stats: 20 GP | 5 G | 8 A | 13 P

Shawn Crowley was acquired by the Canucks from trades involving the 9th pick from Avangard and Helsinki. I bet those two teams wish they kept this pick as Crowley had a very nice career with 204 goals and 397 assists for 601 points in 576 games. He wasn't as good in the playoffs though with just 13 points in 20 games. He never made it to the playoffs often as he was stuck on some bad teams throughout his career. Hard to ignore 601 career points though.

Round 2, Pick 13 (via Avangard) - Left Wing Marrko St.Urho

Career Reg. Season Stats: 504 GP | 231 G | 345 A | 576 P

Career Playoff Stats: 30 GP | 13 G | 21 A | 34 P

Here we have another pick by the Canucks that came from Avangard as they used it to select winger Marrko St.Urho. He was a very good player in his own right as he scored 231 goals and assisted on 345 goals for 576 points. He was also more than a point per game in the playoffs with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points. St.Urho was the face of the Stockholm Rams for a long time after he was traded from Hamilton. It is just too bad that this was around the time Scotty Campbell went from Vasteras to Seattle to Helsinki and the Rams would always meet up with the great Campbell.

Round 2, Pick 16 (via Vasteras) - Defenseman Alex Staal

Career Reg. Season Stats: 431 GP | 57 G | 232 A | 289 P

Career Playoff Stats: 28 GP | 2 G | 15 A | 17 P

With the last pick of the 2nd round, the Canucks used a pick acquired from Vasteras to take defenseman Alex Staal. He wasa very good 3/4 defensman in his career. He played in 431 scoring 57 goals and assisting on 232 goals for 289 points. He was also able to get into 28 playoff games scoring 2 goals and assisting on 15 goals for 17 points. Like I said, he was a very good depth defenseman who didn't cost that much.

Round 3, Pick 18 - Goaltender Sexy McSexington

Career Reg. Season Stats: 3 GP | 0 W | 0 L | 0 OTL | 0.889 SV% | 2.79 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A

Career Playoff Stats: N/A

The man with one of the best names in VHL history only was able to get into 3 VHL games and he didn't get a decision in all 3. He did have a 0.889 save percentage and a 2.79 G.A.A. It was later found out that he retired as a goalie but would come back as a position player.

Round 4, Pick 29 (via Avangardthrough Calgary) - Defenseman LaDainian Tomlinson

Career Reg. Season Stats: 72 GP | 17 G | 32 A | 49 P

Career Playoff Stats: N/A

The runningback from San Diego wanted to try his hand in hockey and he didn't do that bad in his one season. He scored 17 goals and assisted on 32 goals for 49 points.

Conclusion

The Hamilton Canucks had hit on the first 3 picks of their draft and an argument can be made for Alex Staal but I went against that. So a 3/6 draft if not bad at all especially when it is easy to miss on draft picks you have traded for which aren't 1st round picks.
