Bern Struck Iron

While there might be an overload of goaltending prospects coming through the fold of the VHLM, another has been added to the mix. Coming from the player agency that has brought to you the likes of Travis Boychuk and Zach Parechkin, Torstein Ironside will be providing services to a new team.

He recently accepted an offer from the Bern Royals of the VHLM, where Zach Parechkin was an All-Star. With Parechkin having played for Bern, Torstein Ironside's agency sees a bit of familiarity there, so it seemed like a solid fit. He had an offer from the Ottawa Lynx as well, but he turned it town. That is not to say that he does not want to play there, however. Torstein has no preferences, and will play wherever he is wanted, and is always open to trades. The other players, Parechkin and Boychuk were always loyal to whatever team they played for, and only ever would leave if it was best for the team. Mr. Ironside seems to not give any shits about his location, and just wants to play.

Torstein Ironside is a big, 6'5" man from Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, where the likes of Henrik and Daniel Sedin, as well as Markus Naslund hail from. With those kinds of names coming out of that city, Torstein Ironside found an immediate love for hockey as a youth, and now is trying to make a name for himself in the big leagues. With the Bern Royals being in rebuild mode, Torstein might be having some rough games coming his way, but as long as he gets the ice time, he knows how to deal with it.

Torstein has always been known as a solid lateral mover, and with his size that he brings, he should be able to aid Bern in some way or another. It is difficult to say what kind of quality any goaltender could bring to that roster, but it all remains to be seen. Whatever the case, Torstein is excited to finally get the chance to play outside of junior, so he is stepping into the minor system of the Victory Hockey League.

"I am thrilled to come over here to the VHLM. The Bern Royals made their offer and contacted me in person, not just my agency. They wanted me right away when I declared my position in the VHLM. I think that I had made a good showing for the Windsor Spitfires in the CHL, so it will be fun to see what kind of product I can put between the pipes in Bern. I have heard a lot about the city of Bern from my friend Zach Parechkin, so I am definitely going to see the sights there." - Torstein Ironside

In the VHLM, Torstein is relatively a nobody, with so many goaltending prospects through the minors. Everybody is trying to make a name for themselves, and it will definitely be interesting to watch and see who comes out as the best. Ironside will be gunning for the number one spot as a goaltender, but the agency has hinted to let it be known, do not expect the same work ethic as superstar Zach Parechkin. That is not to say he will not try and perform in that way, but maybe hold off on franchise player promises.
