Ironside Striking Iron

Bern Royals goaltender Torstein Ironside signed with the team over 10 games ago, and until lately, he did not see a game. He became vocal with his disappointment in the matter, and now that he has been playing, he has shown his skill set to the VHLM.

While Bern has still been losing of course with the roster that they have, Ironside has been shining. Let's take a look at his first 4 games in the VHLM:

vs. Bratislava Watchmen :brt:

In this game, the end result was a 2-1 shootout loss for Bern, but it definitely would have been a lot worse if not for Torstein. Bratislava out shot Bern a whopping 48 to 11, so a 2-1 final score in a shootout is quite surprising. Torstein Ironside saved 47 of 48 shots before the shootout, trying his best to earn that win. Unfortunately for Ironside, he was not good enough in the shootout, but he ultimately put up a save percentage of .979%. Stellar.

vs. Bratislava Watchmen pt. II :brt:

This was another game where Bern had to face the 1st place Bratislava Watchmen, and it was another one where Torstein Ironside looked great. While the Watchmen did win 4-2, Ironside played great. Bratislava out shot Bern in this one just as bad as the last one, which was 58 to 12. Lucky for Bern, this would have been a blowout if not for Torstein Ironside saving 54 of 58 shots, for a save percentage of .931%.

vs. Brampton Blades :brm:

This game versus the Brampton Blades was one that the Bern Royals had a chance to win. Brampton is the only team under Bern in the standings, so Torstein was hoping for a victory. Brampton eventually won 3-2 after a long shootout full of CPU players. This game had a even shot output of 25 to 25, where Torstein Ironside and Brampton goaltender Markus King saved 23 of 25 shots, for save percentages of .920%.

vs. Oslo Storm :osl:

This was another game for Bern where things would have been horrible for them with another goaltender. The shot output was 51-18 in favour of Oslo, but the score was only 4-1. Torstein Ironside saved 47 of 51 shots, for a save percentage of .922%.

For his first four games in the VHLM, it is safe to say that Torstein Ironside has proven himself with flying colours. He has put up a save percentage of .940% and a goals against average of 2.64. Those kind of numbers are hard to come by in the minor league, but it will be hard to say if he can keep them up or not. Goaltending is all about consistency, and Torstein has not proven that just yet. While this season comes winding down to its last games, Torstein will surely try and continue to play like a madman with the Royals, but I think most are looking to see what happens next season. The real question is where he will play next season in the VHLM, and what kind of performance he can put out there for the VHL Draft.
