With the 2 player rule in effect for the rest of this season and the next, I will be able to get through quite a lot of these I hope. The Toronto Legion traded for Helsinki's 1st in Season 1 and it worked out for them as that pick turned into 1st overall.

Round 1, Pick 1 (via Helsinki): Right Wing Christian Stolzschweiger

Career Reg. Season: 574 GP | 449 G | 463 A | 912 P

Career Playoff Stats: 41 GP | 32 G | 33 A | 65 P

Well I bet the Helsinki Titans really regret this one. They traded their 1st round pick in the deal that got them Maxim Desny. Well, I guess I wouldn't say really regret it as Desny was a good goalie in his own right but having the chance to draft the guy with the 4th most points in the VHL, you probably go with Stolzy. Stolzy played in 574 games, scoring 449 goals and assisting on 463 goals for 912 points. He also played in 41 playoff games scoring 32 goals and assisting on 33 goals for 65 points. He was a first ballot hall of fame player who won the Continental Cup in Season 7.

Round 1, Pick 4: Defenseman Markus Lidstrom

Career Reg. Season: 648 GP | 154 G | 396 A | 550 P

Career Playoff Stats: 26 GP | 7 G | 18 A | 25 P

With their own 1st round pick, the went with defenseman Markus Lidstrom. Lidstrom was one of the underrated defenders of his time. He playing in 648 games, scoring 154 goals and assisting on 396 goals for 550 points. Despite all the regular season games, he only played in 26 playoff games. In these games he scored 7 goals and assisted on 18 for 25 points. He won a Continental Cup in Season 1 when he joined the Vasteras IK team.

Round 3, Pick 23 (via Calgary): Left Wing Travis Desjardins

Career Reg. Season: 372 GP | 39 G | 86 A | 125 P

Career Playoff Stats: 11 GP | 2 G | 2 A | 4 P

The Legion didn't come back up to the podium until the 3rd round with the 23rd pick when they took winger Travis Desjardins. Desjardins was decent especially when you consider where he was taken. He played in 372 games scoring 39 goals and assisted on 86 goals for 125 points. He was never going to be a huge scorer but he was a great energy guy. He snuck into 11 playoff games and actually put up 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points.

Round 4, Pick 28: Right Wing Kyle Kane

Career Reg. Season: 72 GP | 3 G | 14 A | 17 P

Career Playoff Stats: 7 GP | 0 G | 2 A | 2 P

The Legion selected Kyle Kane in the 4th round, 28th overall. He played in only 1 season scoring 3 goals and assisting on 14 goals for 17 points. He also played in 1 playoff series losing in 7 games but he put up 2 assists. Interestingly enough, he left the VHL for the money over seas in the newly formed KHL.

Round 4, Pick 31 (via Calgary): Left Wing Steven Sarai

Career Reg. Season: 72 GP | 11 G | 14 A | 25 P

Career Playoff Stats: 7 GP | 1 G | 2 A | 3 P

Just 3 picks later at 31, the Legion took Steven Sarai. He played in just 1 season scoring 11 goals and assisting on 14 goals for 25 points. He wasn't that bad but after losing in the playoffs where he scored 1 goal and assisted on 2 goals for 3 points, he suffered a career ending injury to his knee.

Round 5, Pick 36: Goaltender Greg Goldberg

Career Reg. Season: 404 GP | 162 W | 192 L | 34 OTL | 0.914 SV% | 3.45 G.A.A | 6 SO | 0 A

Career Playoff Stats: 18 GP | 5 W | 10 L | 2 OTL | 0.909 SV% | 3.63 G.A.A | 1 SO

Here is a player who was selected in the last round of the draft, 36th overall. He took over as the number one goalie soon after he was drafted. He played in 404 games, posting a record of 162-192-34 with a 0.914 save percentage and a 3.45 G.A.A with 6 shutouts. He was a very fine goaltender for his era. He played in 18 playoff games with a record of 5-10-2 with a 0.909 save percentage and a 3.63 G.A.A with 1 shutout. It's a shame that he was stuck on some bad Toronto teams because he was a very good goalie.

Verdict

Stolzy is a obvious hit but Lidstrom and Goldberg were also good picks, the other 3 though not so much.
