Jericho 917
*Note: For the week of Jan 9-Jan 15. Took me 20 minutes too long to write this my bad. Xander Finn's life has been a rollercoaster of emotion since he inked a contract with Kyle Snow. He spent a brief stint in Saskatoon as a depth player and won a Founders Cup there in Season 51. He was drafted to the Oslo Storm third overall during the Season 52 VHLM Dispersal Draft, where he had a breakout season as the team's star defenseman. Finn notched 100 points (tied for 2nd in the league), 317 hits (2nd in the league) and 106 shot blocks (6th in the league). The playoffs were a bit less strong of a showing with Oslo getting knocked out in the first round. Finn had an acceptable performance during these 6 games (7 points, 20 hits, 8 shotblocks). Now we stand at the biggest crossroads of his career, the Season 53 VHL Entry Draft. The Entry Draft is a huge day for every prospective VHL player, as it shapes the entire early portion of their career. The draftees rights belong to the team who drafts them for 3 seasons, or 37.5% of their career. The Season 53 Draft Lottery happened earlier tonight, and with that the first 4 picks are set. Quebec has the first overall pick, with Helsinki holding second, Stockholm picking third and Toronto picking fourth. It's likely, though not certain, that Finn will be taken by one of these four teams. Quebec is less likely, with VHLM point leader Franchise Cornerstone on the board. Helsinki is possible, with only two defensemen on their roster (both low TPE for their draft year). Finn is objectively the best defenseman on the board, so Helsinki is fairly likely. If Helsinki isn't interested in Finn, Stockholm could g either way. Finn's agent Snow has close ties with Stockholm GM Chris Miller, but Stockholm already has Lee Kin Snatch as a strong young defenseman, and a lack of centres on their team. Toronto, at first glance, appears to be set for defensemen, with an incredibly strong defensive core. The thing with Toronto, though, is that they lose that entire core to age in the next two seasons. Right now is the perfect time for them to draft a defenseman to take over once these older players retire. No matter where he ends up, hat team will forge the first chapter in Finn's VHL career. If he finds success there he could end up being there for a full 8 seasons. If he isn't favorable to his first team, they still get that full three seasons. For the most part, Snow's players have shown a large amount of loyalty to teams that don't fuck the players over. Daniel Braxton was one of the loyalist players in New York Americans history, though he did bail on Davos the season after they traded for him. This was entirely do to some terrible GMing from Tyler Barabash. Wesley Kellinger put in a strong three years with Quebec (including winning the team their first Continental Cup) before leaving on good terms and putting in the rest of his career with New York. Jax Barnstormer tragically fell into a coma before he was able to matter one way or the other.
