This is a story that is based on real events. Not so long ago I was nominated to be the captain of Quebec. Being a captain means you need to be able to lead and show a good example. About two weeks ago my leadership abilities was put into a real test when SkateFast McChunky came to Quebec and practiced with us for few days.

To those of you who don´t know, SkateFast is a s53 player who joined our organization during the off-season, so he is taking his first steps on his VHL journey. Now, It´s not unusual to see younger players to come and practice with the pro team before the season starts, good opportunity for them to show what they can do and also good opportunity for the coaches and GM of the team to see where the younger guys are at now, what they need to improve etc.

Captain has a big role in making sure the younger guys can feel comfortable during their stay with the team, everybody else managed to get along with each other quite nicely, but SkateFast is a player with different mentality, so he struggled little bit. At first it looked like he came in with only one thing in mind, to get a spot in the VHL team. That is a good attitude in my opinion, but it did not take too long for things to escalate.

We were just shooting pucks to the net when SkateFast started to build speed by skating behind the net in the other end, it was clear he was up to something and when he got over the red line, he had his 400 lbs frame going on a speed that nobody expected him to ever reach. He had his eyes on the price, unfortunately for me, I was the price and since I had no idea he was coming, I could not prepare myself for the hit at all. It was in middle of the ice, so nowhere near the boards, but still a unnecessary hit on the captain.

I thought I was dead when I laid on the ice , I could not breath and I could not see anything, but turns out it was SkateFast who landed on top of me after the hit. Luckily I did not get injured, just got the wind knocked out of my system.

Other guys on the ice were naturally shocked to see 5´0 ft, 400 lbs to skate that fast, but also me being down on the ice got many feeling worried. Some went after SkateFast and tried to fight him, but the coach escorted SkateFast off the ice before things really heated up.

Soon after SkateFast was on his way back to VHLM where he has started the season quite nicely, 18 points in 14 games. We talked on the phone few days after the incident and as far as I´m considered, it´s behind us now.

I do regret on going to Youtube and disliking all of the videos on his channel, but I blame that on the hit.

10/10, one of your best works in a while :D

McChunky apologizes to Jokinen, the practice was scheduled during second breakfast, and McChunky gets really hangry, as shown by him leading the VHLM in PIMs :P

Every time I think about your player, the song Wrecking Ball starts playing in my head as well.
