jRuutu 2,464
We have now played 32 games on the regular season and I have only dropped my gloves once. That is a embarrassing total, but I do have 82 hits, so it´s not all bad, but I´m not playing as physically as I hoped when I talked about this same thing some time ago and made the decision to try and be more physical. It´s of course easy to set your mind to being more physical, but what if there is not enough opportunities to go for the hit? Or are the players who are playing in VHL now just too quick and agile that I just cant even get to them in time? I´m not the slowest guy out there, but quite often I have noticed that I need to be really careful when going for the hit, want it or not, going for the hit opens up a chance for me to miss my hit and the puck soon being in our net. Getting into fights more is totally another thing though, I could and should have at least few more fights on my total. I´m not sure why I only have one fight? It´s not like there has not been opportunities for a little fight, but even if I´m willing to go, I might not find a partner to dance with. A lot of players like to talk trash to me on the ice, but when it´s time to go, they just skate away. That might be on purpose though, they are looking to get a reaction out of me, sometimes it works and I want to fight, but only thing happens is I get two minutes for roughing. Clever tactic, but still raises a question, where are the players who are willing to fight with the pretty boy from Quebec? Game of hockey is constantly changing and when teams in VHL have limited space in their roster, players who might be up for fighting, wont even get the chance to play? To be fair, there has been decent amount of fights in VHL so far, but only five players have dropped their gloves two or more times, Asher Donovan is the leading fighter with three fights in 32 games. We have obviously only played 32 games and both the hitting totals and fight totals will more than likely look completely different when we reach 60 games played for example. Personally I will try to increase my physicality on the ice during rest of the season even more, to hopefully get myself into few more fights, I have taken few online classes on the art of trash talking. The classes are run by former NHL agitator, Jarkko Ruutu. He streams them from Finland and I just watch the videos when I have the time from his website. Quite clever system and if the things I learn from his classes wont get me closer to fighting, nothing will.
