Lynx Sweep Rush Out the Door

Ottawa forward Motherfucker Sharpe celebrates after scoring his teams first goal in game four.

YUKON, Canada - Going into the Founders Cup championship against the Ottawa Lynx, the Yukon Rush knew that they would certainly be facing an uphill battle. As it turns out, it was a much steeper uphill climb than they anticipated. In the series, the Rush only managed to score more than 1 goal once, and even then it was not enough as the super-powered Lynx were simply too strong and too skilled for the relatively younger and more inexperience Lynx.

In game one, the Lynx jumped out to an early lead at 3:51 of the 1st period with a power-play goal thanks to a high sticking minor by Rush centerman Shawn Gretzky; Luigi de Rossi fired a bullet one timer over the shoulder of Torstein Ironside. Gretzky would later redeem himself at 16:33 of the 1st frame by finishing off a pretty passing play from Apollo Aho and Rudolph Schmeckeldorf. The tie score would be short lived though, as de Rossi tallied another goal 27 seconds later, giving the Lynx a 2-1 lead heading into the 1st intermission. The rest of the game would feature more shutdown play by the Lynx, and goals by Fook Yu and Hudson Abbott would seal the deal for the Lynx 4-1.

Things appeared to change in game two for the Yukon Rush, as Fredinamijs Krigars scored just 2 minutes into the game to give the Rush their first lead of the series; the assists on Krigars goal going to Marty McDouglas and Apollo Aho. Later in the period however, a bad line change by the Rush would give Motherfucker Sharpe and Pablo a 2-on-1, of which the Lynx would convert, for Pablo's third goal of the post-season. John Locke would go on to score a goal in each of the next two periods to seal a game 2 victory for the Lynx.

In game three, the Rush would again score first, with Jakub Pastrnak firing a slapshot through a screen of Ottawa and Yukon players on the powerplay; assists going to Dope Fiend and Aeschylus Jigglejawns CXXXVII. The Lynx would later convert on their own powerplay after Marty McDouglas committed an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty; Hudson Abbott scoring the goal with assists from John Locke and Fook Yu. The second period would see little action aside from two Ottawa penalties. The Rush fell apart in the third period, and the Lynx scored three goals, one each from Kevin Jalopski, Takashi Fujimoto, and Legubrious Tucker.

The Yukon Rush appeared to show up in the do-or-die game 4, as much-maligned forward Austin Hickey V fired a wrister from the left circle through the five hole of Jacob for a much-needed one goal lead. The Rush took the lead into the 1st intermission, however in the 2nd period the Lynx came out firing as Motherfucker Sharpe scored five minutes in and then Pablo scored twice on the powerplay to give Ottawa a 3-1 lead heading into what would end up being the final period of the season. In the 3rd period, Fook Yu scored a fluky deflection goal that definitely appeared to dampen the spirits of the desperate Rush, for fourteen minutes at least, as the Rush would manage to scramble together two goals in the final five minutes to bring the score to within one goal, but it just wasn't enough. After the final buzzer, gloves and helmets flew into the air as the Ottawa Lynx secured their almost guaranteed Founders Cup victory.

Review:

We had a great run in Yukon. Obviously, nobody really expected anyone to beat Ottawa in the playoffs. Team 2 gud. Usually Yukon2gud, but this time Lynx2gud.

Too bad, would have been cool to finally win a VHLM Championship. I've never done that.
