Devise 4,475
M.T. Power knew that he'd be facing a season where he was going to be starting far less games. After coming into a rookie season where he had to back stop a top Americans club, and did so successfully all the way to the playoffs, the young netminder seemed to fully embrace the back up role this season. He's been jovial in the locker room, and become great buds with fellow netminder Jakab Holik. After Holik opened the season with 5 straight shutouts, and added 3 more to that total as the early games wore on, Power was finally granted his first start of the season in a recent game against the Seattle Bears. Not to be outdone by the veteran netminder he out dueled last season, Power recorded a shutout of his own in his first game. While there certainly isn't a in goalie rivalry going on with New York, Power had the following to say on the situation. Quote I love it. Listen I do better when I'm under the radar. I am not one of those players that believes you need to pump out every season strong in order to make your case for the Hall of Fame. Sure I want to be there one day, and sure maybe sitting behind Holik for a season or two has an impact on my chances. But so what? It's a team game. There is still lots of career and lots of training for me. I performed big in last years playoffs for this club, and it took a lot out of me. I'm still growing, learning, adapting. This gives me more time to really beef up and when I get back to starting a full season, look out. Then I'm a wildcard, then nobody knows what to expect. Until then? Well until then I'm having a blast watching Holik have a blast with this club. A few of us goalies are good buds in this league, and I mean you could feel the disappointment on him going through the handshake line last year. He's such a great player but he was just in a tough situation in Seattle. Now he's in less of a tough situation. And tasked with the challenge of proving he can make a difference to this club he's has a record breaking start. I have nothing but good things to say about this situation, and I look forward to learning from him and who knows maybe I'll get a few more shutouts of my own in my limited action this season.
