Can The Americans Win The Continental Cup This Season?

As I mentioned on a VHL.com article I posted earlier in the week, while many had predicted that New York would be the winners of the North American Championship this year, I believed that the Americans lack of depth at defensemen would actually open the door for the Quebec City Meute to represent the North American Conference in the Continental Cup Final, and with how the seasons progressed so far, I believe my prediction is starting to look the more accurate. While there's still plenty of season left for things to change, the Americans are currently seven points behind the Meute, but the most concerning thing for the Americans three-peat aspirations will be their record against the other competing teams in the VHL. Having played nine total games against the Meute (3 games), Titans (2 games) and Vikings (4 games), they have only come away with a victory twice (One against the Meute, one in a shootout victory over the Titans) and all seven of their losses have come in regulation. In addition, when you combine the shot totals between the teams in these games, they've been out-shot by all three of them. This begs the question as to whether the Americans in their current state can hope to compete with these teams considering their current record against them. Unfortunately for the Americans, if they did feel like they needed to find more depth, their current cap situation of only 500,000 dollars remaining means that they'd have to get rid of one of their high TPE players to make room for several lesser-TPE names, and with the league not holding as many mid-level inactives as it has had in seasons past, that may be difficult.

Cologne Have Chance of Breaking Streak

Here is a fact that some of you may not be aware of; since their introduction to the Victory Hockey League in Season 31, the Cologne Express have never finished with the best or worst record in the VHL during the regular season. For comparison, since Cologne's induction, every other team in the VHL has won the Victory Cup at least once and (outside of Cologne) only New York has not finished with the worst record in the VHL at least once. While Cologne won't be likely to break their Victory Cup duck anytime soon, they do at least stand a chance at finishing with the worst record in the VHL for the first time ever. As it stands with half the season gone, the Express are currently on 23 points, just 3 points ahead of the Wranglers and Bears who are currently tied for the worst record in the league.
