Entrance Music

We all know music today plays huge parts in many people everyday lives, and one could argue that music plays a part in many sporting events including hockey. VHL teams come up with a dressing room vote before the beginning of every season to choose the song that will play in their home barns as they enter the ice just before puck drop. In today’s article we’ll look at some of the entrance music that plays in VHL arenas across the globe.

Calgary Wranglers: Back in the Saddle- Aerosmith

The first team in the North American Conference we’ll look at it is the Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers only have three players on their roster currently during the latest rebuild in Calgary, so they didn’t have much input about their entrance song this season. The choices included, save a horse ride a cowboy by Big and Rich, and Back in the Saddle by Aerosmith. After a standstill in the locker room the team posted the question to the legion of their fans on their Facebook page, and the response was unanimous. The fans voted overwhelmingly for the Aerosmith song, so when the Wranglers stepped onto home ice against the Legion earlier this season, Steven Tyler blared over the loudspeakers

New York Americans: American Badass- Kid Rock

The New York Americans had five new players entering the locker-room this season, so a lot of opinions were expressed during at the team suppers during training camp about what the team should enter the ice too this season. Captain Conner Low was hoping to get the song from the movie “Team America”, but management quickly said no to that with the many families that attend Americans games. The team then focused their search to the weird tradition their franchise goaltender has been doing before games this season and that is listening to Kid Rock. The team decided to let Wahl decide what Kid Rock song the team would come out to, so the Americans can be seen being led out onto hoe ice to the tune of Kid Rock’s, Americans Badass.

Quebec City Meute: Bark at the Moon- Ozzy Osbourne

The Meute are coming off their best season in the league since entering the VHL back in Season Thirty-One, winning the clubs first Continental Cup over the Helsinki Titans last season, so the club wanted something powerful to come onto the ice this season. The club searched across every genre of music before settling on Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne. The song represents the franchise very well and it also provides the powerful song they wanted to enter the ice to.

Seattle Bears: Gus the Polar Bear from Central Park- The Tragically Hip

Seattle’s General Manager Greg Harbinson is from the Canadian province of Ontario, which also happens to be the Tragically Hip’s home province, so it’s no surprise the Bears come onto the ice with the hip blaring over the arena speakers. The GM didn’t put the choice to a locker-room vote, choosing instead to have a few cold ones one night and put on some hip albums until the perfect song came on. Harbinson put the album In Between Evolution and stumbled upon the perfect song for the team, so thanks to that night the franchise comes out each and every single home game to “Gus the Polar Bear from Central Park.”

Toronto Legion: Jane- Barenaked Ladies

The Barenaked Ladies song “Jane” is about an intersection in Toronto that the band thought sounded nice when they first say it on a map. When Remy LeBeau first came to Toronto after being drafted to the club he had his first Toronto incident of the same street corner. Ever since that day his Legion teammates haven’t let him forget about that memorable moment on Jane St. Clair.
