:vhllogo:Quebec’s Journey Back To The Top:que:

After being led last season in scoring by journeyman forward Ted Doughty, it would be an understatement to say the least if I told you I was slightly surprised to see the Meute on top of the North American Conference. The Meute have been playing lights out so far in Season Fifty-Four, sitting with thirty-eight wins to go along with their five regulation losses and three overtime or shootout losses. The Meute finished last season in the final playoff spot but didn’t go any further as the New York Americans quickly disposed of them, but shortly after the quick playoff exit General Manager Frank Chadwick went to work in anticipation of Season Fifty-Four.

Chadwick wasn’t happy with another sub-par season with the Meute finishing behind the powerhouse Americans again in Season Fifty-Four, so he set out to improve the Meute and he did just that. Just days after the season ended and the post-season freeze on player movement was removed Chadwick headed over to the trade wire to start improving his roster. The First move involved bringing long-time Davos Dynamo defenseman Pavel Komarov over to the fold, a move that also included the Meute acquiring the Dynamos lottery pick in the process as well. This would be the only early season trade Chadwick would make before turning his attention to the upcoming VHL Entry Draft and free agency.

The Meute were lucky enough to be the team to take advantage of the Dynamo looking to trade down to acquire more assets, trading the Fifth and Eighth overall picks in draft to acquire the Second overall pick. With that trade Chadwick signalled to the rest of the VHL that the Meute were looking to be serious contenders, looking to add another piece that would instantly jump into the VHL and help the club. When it came time to make a pick with that draft choice, Chadwick played his cards close to his chest and eventually selected centerman Fook Yu. Yu comes to the Meute with a very touted past, something that likely drew the Meute to the youngster from Hong Kong. Yu has been a quality addition to the Meute in his first fifty games in the VHL, adding a much needed physical game to the Meute. Another new face to the Meute was a player that . After adding Yu and Locke who was drafted in the First Round of the Season Fifty-Three VHL Draft to the fold, Chadwick turned his attention to a very poor free agent market, where he found the best player available. Titan Kronos had taken some time off the VHL after his rookie contract expired with the Riga Reign, only to have Chadwick pick the young defenseman from his couch to anchor his blue line. The Kronos pick up might have been the best move of the off-season for Chadwick as Kronos has picked up like he never stepped foot off the VHL ice. Kronos leads the Meute roster and all VHL defenseman in points with twenty-one goals and forty-nine assists, which is just six short of his career high he put up the last time he played in the VHL back in Season Fifty-Two.

As the off-season drew to a close and training camps began around the VHL, rumor was Chadwick still wasn’t finished with his roster tinkering. Chadwick turned back to the phone and started making calls to other VHL GMs about available players. The first move that Chadwick made was three days before the pre-season began when he shipped Kendrick Cole, Ted Doughty, and a Season Fifty-Six Second Round pick to the Cologne Express for forwards AK47 and Max Von Hohenzollern. Both players were coming off incredible seasons last year that saw each of them put up over 135 points, something that Chadwick took huge note of. Although they haven’t reach those totals yet and likely won’t this season with Quebec, their thirty-four and forty-five points respectively have been a huge boost to the secondary scoring Quebec was looking for. The final piece to the puzzle for Chadwick and the Meute was a the two pieces they added in eighth year forwards Felipe Rodriquez and Vincent Virtanen. Rodriguez is returning to the club where it all started way back in Season Forty-Seven, while Virtanen has been a life-time Reign since joining them back in Season Forty-Seven. Quebec looks to be set now as they approach the stretch run to the VHL playoffs, and with all the moves they’ve made fans are starting to fill the barn nightly hoping for the best.

I guess I didn't realize how many moves were made to get them where they are. Very nice job with analysis and research. I always enjoy these types of articles. Keep 'em coming! Everything checks out; content, length, grammar.
