Dexter Lane: Ranking the VHL Teams

My newest client Dexter Lane is about to be drafted and be a member of one of the ten Victory Hockey League teams we sport in this great league.  This week's article will focus on which teams he does and does not want to play for.  I obviously mean total offence to those I don't want to play for.

 

1. HC Davos Dynamo - I won't lie to you.  I never thought I would say I wanted to be a member of the Davos Dynamo.  I was a core member of the Helsinki Titans teams in the 20's that had a long-standing and competitive rivalry with the Dynamo, and many heated exchanges were apart of it.  With all that being said, I'm all about bringing a team on the downs back to the forefront and with Smarch as GM and some solid foundation members there already, I would definitely have interest.

 

2. Toronto Legion - Here is another team I have not played for that I would love to be a part of.  There is an attraction about being in a separate conference from Dragonslayer and I have never had the opportunity to play for DollarAndADream.  I'm not sure if I would be on their radar with Sokolov already there, but I do feel I could play a great shutdown defense role alongside him.  With both of Dollar's players there as well, I think the Legion have a bright future and I would love to be a part of that.

 

3. New York Americans - I'm sure just about everyone was shocked they were not among my top two.  Ideally I would like to play for someone I have not played for before, but I'd be lying if I said being a member of New York again wouldn't get me a little excited.  The team is very strong and they have some really talented young pieces and I think I'd obviously fit in well there.

 

4. Stockholm Vikings - Not my favourite option but I do have room for a shutdown, physical defender to eventually replace Klingberg who has only a couple years left.  Adding him to my young core and alongside Snatch would make sense.  With no draft pick though, this is very unlikely unless I decide to change things up and make some trades.

 

5. Cologne Express - I am not a massive fan of how they look right now but I have always wanted to have a player long-term in Cologne and with Kendrick in net, the German powerhouse could rise once again.  Lane would make a strong crease clearer for King and Cologne could become a team to watch in Europe.

 

6. Quebec City Meute - A team I have not played for with some solid young pieces and are still competitive.  Pretty much all you can ask for.  While it won't happen, I would enjoy playing in Quebec I think.  Another thing I thought I would never say.

 

7. Calgary Wranglers - I really wanted to put them lower.  I've been a member of the team before (and not for a short time either) and I'm not overly crazy about that team going forward.  Though with some bright pieces in Devise and Higgins, it is hard to argue with the fact that they have some attractive reasons to keep me happy if I were to be drafted by the Wranglers.

 

8. Riga Reign - I just do not really know if my new player would fit in with where that team is right now.  They are a fringe playoff team with some weak prospects going forward.  At some point they probably should go full rebuild and just sell off, but with Krigars there, I'm not too sure when that will happen.

 

9. Seattle Bears - I really do not know where that team is going right now and for that reason alone, I am not overly crazy about being a member of the Bears.  I could live with it, but is definitely way down on my list.

 

10. Helsinki Titans - It really isn't out of hate or anything like that.  I just think it would be too weird being on both teams of the biggest rivalry in the VHL.  I think any of the Titans players would feel the same way right now.
