S50 Top Picks Lead Scoring

When they were drafted with the first and second overall picks in Season 50, Diana Maxwell and Theo Axelsson were expected to be in competition for their entire careers.  Both played the same position - right wing - and while they had different playing styles, both were prolific scorers that looked bound to have successful VHL careers.  Fast forward five seasons - it’s now Season 55, both have won Continental Cups (Maxwell with 2 and Axelsson with 1), Axelsson has won his first Boulet Trophy, and Maxwell has won both the Szatkowski and Brooks trophies.  

Now, they have the top two point totals in the league (89 for Maxwell, 84 for Axelsson) and are two of the many contenders in the congested race to be Season 55’s top goalscorer.  While both may have taken a while to start producing at an elite level, it seems like both are finally starting to reach their potential.  And with Tyson Kohler, Unassisted, and Black Velvet retiring after this season, it looks like these two might have the opportunity to become the VHL’s top players for the rest of their careers if they keep their current performance up.
