Aiden Shaw was selected in the 2nd round of the Season 18 VHL Entry Draft with the 10th overall pick. This pick was traded an impressive 4 times before finding a home with the Toronto Legion. HC Davos Dynamo were the original owners of the pick before trading the pick to Helsinki with Leander Kaelin, a Season 17 Toronto 2nd (Jacob Elwood) for a Season 18 Helsinki 1st (Daisuke Kanou) and a Season 17 Helsinki 3rd (Rob Falko). So the original trade was basically Daisuke Kanou for Aiden Shaw. How interesting it that. Helsinki then traded the pick to the New York Americans with Matt Bailey for Edward Eldred, a Season 17 Helsinki 1st (Syd Drayson) and a Season 18 New York 2nd (Jordan De Fabio). New York traded the pick to Toronto with a Season 19 New York 1st (Ignatius Feltersnatch) for Nicholas Evans and a Season 19 Toronto 2nd (Heinrich Olen). That is the story of Aiden Shaw before he was even drafted. Let us continue to his story after the draft.

In Season 18, Shaw was sent back down to the minors to play with the Brampton Battalion. It seemed like a smart move because the Battalion dominated the VHLM. Shaw had a record of 65-5-0 with a 0.923 save percentage and a 2.77 G.A.A with 4 shutouts and 10 assists. It was a season to remember for sure already before the playoffs even began. In Shaw's first taste of VHL action, he went 29-29-6 with a 0.911 save percentage and a 2.87 G.A.A with 5 shutouts and 3 assists. It wasn't as great as his VHLM performance last season but was still good enough to lead the Legion into the playoffs by 6 points over the New York Americans. The Legion though would play the Calgary Wranglers in the playoffs and lose in 5 games as the Wranglers would win back to back championships. Shaw went 1-4-0 with a 0.883 save percentage and a 3.42 G.A.A.

Season 20 - Toronto Legion

Season 21 is where the 2nd place team in the NA Conference gave the Legion all they could handle in the Regular Season after a cake walk in Season 20. Toronto still finished top with 119 points which was just 12 points ahead of 2nd rather than 25 prior to this season. Shaw had a record of 50-11-3 with a 0.932 save percentage and a 1.86 G.A.A with 8 shutouts and 1 assist. The Legion would play the Bears in the semis and after 7 games, the Legion would move on to their back to back final appearance. The Legion would play the HC Davos Dynamo in the final once again this time though, the Legion came out on top in just 5 games. Shaw had a 8-4-0 record with a 0.940 save percentage and a 1.62 G.A.A with 1 shutout. Shaw and the Legion were Continental Cup Champions.

In Season 22, the Legion showed no signs of slowing down with another impressive Regular Season which saw them finish 1st by 30 points over the Calgary Wranglers. Shaw had a record of 57-4-2 with a 0.933 save percentage and a 1.62 G.A.A and 10 shutouts with 2 assists. In the playoffs though, the Wranglers gave the Legion everything they had and pushed them to a 7th game where Toronto eventually won. Cracks in the armor were showing for the Legion. The Legion would make it to a 3rd straight final where they would play the Helsinki Titans in a 6 game thriller. Helsinki wound up winning in a minor upset. Shaw had a record of 6-6-1 with a 0.901 save percentage and a 2.69 G.A.A with 1 shutout. Disappointing to say the least.

Season 23 - Toronto Legion

Season 23 Regular Season

For the first time in 3 seasons, the Legion would not make the finals.

Season 24 - Toronto Legion

Season 24 Regular Season

S24 - VHL - TOR - 11 GP | 6 W | 5 L | 0 OTL | 0.946 SV% | 1.45 G.A.A | 3 SO | 0 A

What seemed like a minor blip on the radar in Season 23 was laid to rest in Season 24 as Toronto came back roaring with 114 points to win the NA again by 38 points over the New York Americans. Shaw had a record of 47-13-4 with a 0.931 save percentage and a 1.77 G.A.A with 9 shutouts and 1 assist. After 5 short games, the Legion beat the Americans to move onto their 4th final in 5 seasons. Shaw went 6-5-0 with a 0.946 save percentage and a 1.45 G.A.A with 3 shutouts. Shawn tried really hard to win that cup in Season 24.

Season 25 - Toronto Legion

Season 25 Regular Season
S25 - VHL - TOR - 64 GP | 38 W | 23 L | 3 OTL | 0.916 SV% | 2.32 G.A.A | 7 SO | 5 A

Season 25 Playoff
S25 - VHL - TOR - 4 GP | 0 W | 4 L | 0 OTL | 0.870 SV% | 3.77 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A

Season 25 was the end of a era. Both Aiden Shaw and Daisuke Kanou were calling it a career in Season 25 after reaching the 8 season limit in the VHL. Toronto didn't win the NA for the first time since Season 20. Toronto finished 8 points back of the New York Americans for top spot. Shaw had a record of 38-23-3 with a 0.916 save percentage and a 2.32 G.A.A with 7 shutouts and 5 assists. In the playoffs, the Legion would play the Americans in a rematch of last seasons 1st round matchup. Unlike the prior season, New York swept the Legion bring Shaw's career to a halting end. Shaw had a record of 0-4-0 with a 0.870 save percentage and a 3.77 G.A.A. It was a sad end to a great career.

Just by looking at these stats you realize why the Top Goaltending Trophy is named after Aiden Shaw. Shaw retired with a record of 315-110-24 in 452 games. Imagine what his totals could look like if he didn't play a game in the minors after his draft year. You could probably add at least 20-25 more wins to his total.
