Game 1: Hamilton Canucks VS Calgary Wranglers In the inaugural game of the Victory Hockey League pitted an all Canadian match up with Hamilton visiting Calgary. A total of 15,141 people came a showed up to support their home Wranglers. In the first period, Calgary came out flying hitting everything in sight. This however, was all for not as Alyn McCauley scored at 3:34 of the first period. This was assisted by Alexei Zhamnov and Alexander Mogliny. Other than the goal, a whole lot of hits and missed shots happened. During the second period the teams played more of a puck possession game as they both tried to cycle the puck with a lot of passing and not much shots. Near the end of the period the Hamilton Canucks scored again with David Night scoring assisted by Adrian McCreath. It was 2-0 by the end of the 2nd. Both teams barely had any shots with both having 13 apiece. By the start of the third period both teams were starting to shoot more. Calgary managed to cut the score in half with a goal by Ales Kotalik. Ales Hemsky and Jeremy Lamborghini registered the assists on the goal from Ales Kotalik. That goal was short lived as the Canucks answered right back 1 minute and 1 second later. Adrian McCreath scored a goal assisted by Jon Church and David Night, when all seemed lost and the home fans getting riled up, Reg Vaillancourt scored 1 minute and 20 seconds later with Cody Banks and Alex Henry getting the assists. With a tightly contested game being played it seemed like no one was going to budge. 7 minutes after Calgary made it one goal game again the Hamilton Canucks put this game away for good with Alyn McCauley scoring at 14:41 of the third period. Donald Bartch and Anders Eriksson got the assists on the goal from Alyn McCauley. The goalies for the most part played well but gave up a lot of rebounds. Drew Barclay in particular gave up more and it cost him the game. Jesus Christ stopped Calgary's third period push. He stopped 13 of 15 shots in the third alone making a total of 26 saves in the inaugural win of the VHL. He posted a 2.00 G.A.A and a 0.929 save percentage. Drew Barclay on the other hand stopped 22 of 26 for a G.A.A of 4.00 and a save percentage of 0.846. Special teams did not really play a role as Calgary had the only PP because Jon Church took a slashing penalty as 0:43 of the second period. Calgary did not score on the PP going 0-1 on the night. Hamilton's PK finished at 100%. Alyn McCauley received the 1st star honours, Adrian McCreath received the 2nd star honours and David Night received the 3rd star. Doomsday 4,130
Content: 3/3 - Even when only counting the analysis of the game, it covers the requirements. An interesting look back at the VHL's beginnings and I'm sure it waxes plenty of nostalgia for those that were here for that. Even for those that weren't, like me, it allows us to get a glimpse of those days, which is awesome. Grammar: 2/2 - Pretty solid. people came a showed up = people came and showed up Appearance: 1/1 - Yuppers. Overall: 6/6 - Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/4271-claimedpre-season-maybe/#findComment-33012 Share on other sites
