Thomas Sankara today signed his first contract in the VHLM signing a one year deal with the Las Vegas Aces, a team poised to challenge for the Champions Trophy this year. The smooth skating two way defenseman from Burkina Faso comes to Vegas from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and should get tons of opportunity playing for Vegas this year, a team that desperately needed a new face on the blue line. The Aces blue line is led by Casey Jones but otherwise Sankara could easily be the teams second best and important defenseman by the end of the year depending on his developmental curve. The player is a Season 57 draftee and is poised to be a second round draft pick, though with a strong showing could end up being a late first round pick. It's going to be a long season for the 18 year old in his first professional campaign, but with a strong shot, great first step and a creative mind, it could be an exciting one for the Aces as they look to compete.
