Jeff Gow's Draft Future Uncertain

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - The S57 VHL Entry Draft is stacked. Most year's, it's pretty easy to predict who the top draft picks will be while the rest of the 1st round is rounded out by high upside first gens who may not be the most active and high floor veteran members who may not light the world on fire, but GMs will know what they'll get. However, that is not the case this year. The entire 1st round will more than likely be filled with players who in a "normal" draft would be going in the top 5, if not the top 3. That leaves the fate of these players up in the air more so than usual.

Given the events over the past week, this is even more true for winger Jeff Gow. Going into most drafts, the Lynx player would be a safe top 5 pick, and possibly top 3 given the strength of the class and the relative need of each team. However, given his ties to the soon to be  ex-Calgary general manager, many expected the winger to end up as a Wrangler. While this is still a possibility, it is no longer the slam dunk it seemed to previously be. Shortly after the announcement was made, there were multiple reporters at Jeff's locker.

"Yeah, I've heard the news at this point. It's a little bit of a shocker to me, but it is what it is. It wasn't 100% certain for numerous reasons, but I had a pretty good idea that I was going to end up at Calgary during the draft, or at least at some point in my career. I was never going to force my way there, but it's something that would have been kind of nice, since that's where my agency got started. Now though, I have no idea where I'll be playing, or even really what my career plans are. My player's have always been loyal to the teams that have drafted them, sometimes to a fault. I don't know if I have it in me to be a 'lifer' at some place or if I want to jump around from team to team. It'll probably be a decision made during the course of my career, because even with the draft approaching closer, I still don't have an answer for GMs. I don't want to give GMs a false sense of security that I'll stay on their teams no matter what, but there currently is no team that I would flat out refuse to play for."

This is going to be one of the most exciting drafts in recent memory. With the large number of top prospects available, it would not be surprising to see the draft board change between now and 5 minutes before the draft starts. These 1st round picks are going to be extremely valuable whether you're a rebuilding team or a title winning team that somehow managed to hold onto their 1st round pick.
