jRuutu 2,464
Long wait is over, Quebec Meute has finally won the cup, last one came all the way back in season 35, so it´s been a while! We were in the finals in the past two years as well, but for whatever reason could not secure the cup victory, but now we managed to do it and I must say, it feels great. The whole team worked hard and it really showed, tough series first against Calgary and now in the finals against Davos, in total of 13 games in short period of time, but we came out as the winners and now celebrate the cup victory. I would like to especially thank our fans, you have been great and pushed us to play hard and give everything for Quebec, so thank you! Before I head off and enjoy the time away from hockey, I would like to share something with you guys, as you can imagine, cup victory also means a lot of media work and I have been giving interviews like crazy in the past 12 hours. I also decided to do things bit differently and ask questions from myself and then post them into my own website! I answered them myself this time instead of forcing my twin brother Emilio to pretend to be me, so go to FJokinenQ.com and comment! Here is a short preview on what you will find: What happened with you and Sharpe? FJ: Nothing really, game seven is a special game and sometimes things can get bit out of control when two teams will do whatever it takes to win. Davos was down by one in the third, so they were looking for a way to get both the guys at the bench going and of course make the fans to be loud as possible, so Sharpe decided to step up and challenged me to a fight. I was naturally not too interested in dropping the gloves, always a risk that you get injured and on top of that we were playing in the third period of game seven, so moment to fight does not get much riskier than that, but Sharpe was not letting go and kept poking at me, comments about my mustache was the final straw, I said: Let´s go and then we went at it. The actual fight was clean, both landed few solid punches, but as some of you know, I was the player who dropped the gloves the most during regular season, so that experience showed up quite quickly and I managed to basically knock Sharpe out. Both got five minute penalty for it and luckily both were able to continue the game without any injuries. At the last minute Maximoff scored one more goal to make it 5-3 and that is how the game ended, Quebec won the cup. Got any words for Sharpe? FJ: Yes, it was a good effort, but with a record like that you should maybe stay in your own league, coming after heavyweight like me is always respectable move, but at some point you need to think if it´s wise to pick the bear to be your opponent when you in the past have mostly battled with puppies. Important to know your limits, I guess Sharpe learned that in game seven. Bit of practice and I could see Sharpe be able to give a proper challenge in the future, but next season might be too soon, only so much you can do during off-season, better to focus on resting and on hockey itself instead of taking boxing lessons. Lets move to more positive things, winning the cup - how much does it mean to you and for Quebec? JR: It means a lot, the whole city is huge hockey city, almost everybody live and breathe hockey, so it´s about time we manage to celebrate the cup victory again. A lot of games played since the last cup victory, it´s what - 20 years from last one? So I cant even guess how much it means for the fans who have followed us all these years. Personally it means just as much, the first cup victory of my career. What makes it even more special is the fact that I was drafted by Quebec and even made the captain of the team, I have been here all of my career, winning the cup now is a dream come true. What is the first thing you will do with the cup? FJ: I have not decided yet, I might just sit on my couch and look at it, but might also take it back home to Finland and show it around, family and friends will at least like to see it and then maybe me as well, but nothing too dramatic or wild planned, just enjoying my day with it and taking a lot of pictures, so I can look at them and reminisce once the playing days are over. How about future, think Quebec can do it again?FJ: Absolutely, the team we got here is really talented and even if the roster changes little bit when going forward, there is no reason why we cant play in the finals again next year. It´s of course up to us to do it, every team in the league wants to beat the cup winning team, so next season will more than likely be harder than this one, but we now know what you need to do if you want to win, so I´m feeling excited about our future. What about you personally, what are your goals for next season? FJ: Same as always, be the best possible hockey player I can be and help the team to win games. If the team plays well, I play well. I had pretty excellent year this year when it comes down to points, broke the 100 point mark for the very first time, doing that again is tough task, but it´s possible - just gotta keep going and hope I manage to stay healthy. That is the short preview of the interview, so make sure to actually go to the site and read the rest. I also opened a section where you can send me your questions and I will then try to answer them as well, so be active and show some love, I will or will not give it back.
