When Felix Savard first signed in Davos, it was a bit out of the blue for me. I had never intended to bring in any free agents big names or little names and was content with just sitting it out for a few seasons. However when a big name free agent becomes available and expresses interest it's hard not to consider an offer. I made my offer, he accepted it and we hoped we could rebound and become competitive sooner rather then later. Despite that, it had become clearer and clearer my window for contention was not in the next season or the one after that and in fact it may take a little more patience. By the time I was ready to compete Savard would drop from 81 overall to the mid 70's and still be a quality player. I could have kept the asset but when I had so many holes left to fill it didn't make sense in the end to keep the inactive player who likely won't improve.

I got Kriztoff Mueller and a S60 first back from New York and while the return is not the best value, there were only really so many teams capable of bidding on him. New York and Helsinki were the two teams identified as possible trade partners. Both had the cap, both were competitive this season and had assets to trade away. The Titans were not really sincere in their efforts in making a deal and mostly seemed unsure of their teams direction. I think in the end it makes the most sense for the Titans to have kept their picks, but I'm unsure of where the team is headed with the current management team. They probably won't win this year and it seems like every year they are due to fall off the wagon a little bit. Maybe it would have made sense to push ahead of the other teams with adding Savard, but in the end it was likely the wise, long term, choice.

The Americans are a young team that should compete for a long while. I think, if it goes well, by the time Davos is competing at the top of the league that the Americans will likely still be there and be an opponent for me. Savard should make them the favorites if not maybe co favorites for the rest of the season. Toronto is still a great team and the Titans and Riga are veteran teams who can make a push. If the Americans win the cup I will get the 8th overall and whatever my own first pick will end up being. The draft has some solid depth since there are some new welfare and active members all together. I think I should get a solid piece with my own pick and another good piece with my other pick.

In the end, the trade is a win for the Americans because they get to compete this season and in to the future with Savard as a top tier player. For me there is a bit of a risk but with Mueller and a S60 first I should get a solid return when it's all said and done as long as the Season 60 draft remains as promising as it has been so far.
