A Look Around the League

This week, instead of bitching about how Slipher isn't playing or scoring enough I decided to take a look at what the VHL league leaderboard looks like (alliteration not intended).

Through 32 games, the league leader in both goals and points is Helsinki Titans star Mattias Forsberg. His 28 goals is one ahead of reigning MVP Gabriel McAllister of Davos and two ahead of Calgary standout Keaton Louth. Forsberg is also two ahead of Louth in the scoring race, holding a 55-53 lead. Louth's teammate Jasper Canmore rounds out the top three with 51 points. Canmore is second in the VHL in assists with 35, but he's a far cry from current leader Ay Ay Ron of Helsinki with 43.

On the more physical side of things, McAllister has delivered a league-high 190 hits. That puts him well ahead of the 162 from Helsinki's Aleksei Fedorov. Emil Martinov of Seattle has a healthy lead in blocked shots with 135, with Toronto's Sebastian Ironside a far cry away with 80.

Among goaltenders, Davos' Shawn Brodeur is tops in the league with 22 wins, a 0.933 save percentage, and a 1.54 goals against average. Helsinki's Markus King is second in wins, while Calgary's Norris Stopko is second in save percentage and goals against average. New York's Ike Arkander leads the league with six shutouts, one ahead of Brodeur's five.
