PremiumFunk 1
Johannes Benoit Profile Position: G Age: 18 (14/02/2000) Height: 6’2” Weight: 175 Hometown: Rimouski, Quebec (CAN) Junior Hockey: Rimouski Oceanic Junior Stats GP: 173 W: 104 SV%: 0.928 GAA: 2.14 SO: 13 History Johannes Benoit of Rimouski, Quebec has been a hallmark of consistency in his junior hockey career, boasting historically relevant win totals, shutout totals and by-season save percentages in the QMJHL for the Oceanic. Benoit finished his career in his hometown of Rimouski on a very strong note, notching 41 wins, 6 shutouts, a .943 sv% and a strong Jean-Rougeau Trophy-winning finish. Along with the highest regular season point total, the young up-and-coming keeper aided his team in capturing back-to-back Robert-Lebel and Jacques Plante awards for fewest goals allowed as a team and lowest GAA, respectively. The 6'2" keeper has made two appearances in the World Junior Championships, capturing one bronze medal and one gold medal. Summary Benoit is a two-time QMJHL All-Star, one time CHL goalie of the year and two-time winner of the Jaques Plante Award. His resume is loaded with success regardless of the team in front of him, leading scouts to keep a very close eye on the young prospect. As far as his game goes, Benoit is praised for his athleticism and bold puck-playing ability. It takes a very good shot or a deflection to put one past Johannes. Rarely beaten on his glove side, he prides himself on his ability to pull sure goals out of the air. With a proper transition into the VHL-level, Benoit could prove to be a lethal force between the pipes for years to come. Strengths Benoit's strengths lie in both the physical and mental aspects of the game. For how quick his glove hand is and how fast he can move post-to-post, it pales in comparison to his rock solid mentality. On the rare occasion Benoit lets an easy goal past the triple-checked security gate that is his net, it never gets to his head. He's quick to forget and a meticulous note- taker on the biggest offensive threats in the league. He knows where the shooters like to sit on the powerplay, he knows where you like to shoot on the breakaway and he knows when he can create an offensive opportunity from a long stretch- pass from the hash marks. Weaknesses A known "coach-killer," Benoit is quick to question any decision that he disagrees with. His fallouts have become the subject of heavy scrutiny from some scouts as well as a few of his former coaches, one going as far as to say that "he'll never be great until he gets his attitude in check". Benoit refuses to comment on his relationship with his coaches, opting instead to mention that he "does [his] job" and "leads [his] team to solid finishes every year, so what's the problem?" Additionally, his quick draw on the poke check often leaves Benoit wide open on the stick-side. An area of his game that he's been progressively working on, but still a notable flaw for scouts to keep in mind.
