Jamie 438 Posted February 15, 2014 Share Posted February 15, 2014 RIGA, Latvia - After an abysmal season for the Riga Reign, there was some upside although missing the playoffs. When the draft lottery took place there was a chance that Riga could move up, down or stay at the same 2nd position. It is a very strong draft this season in depth but there are clearly two top players and after that the talent drops off. The New York Americans hold three of the four lottery picks and obviously the Reign hold the other which they won and will now select 1st overall. The two players that they get to choose from are forward Tom Slaughter who may have been the favourite to go 1st but not too far behind is defenseman Slaeter Fjorsstrom. Looking at needs it is obvious that Riga is in need of a number one defender but they should go with who they think will be the better player.
