Twinger's Progress [1/2]

What's Wrong With Twinger?

At the 22 game mark of the season, Leph Twinger has a little bit to be desired. Being a 1st overall player comes with some pressure, although maybe for his team he gets a little off his shoulders. Twinger comes on to a team full of offensive talent, with sophomore guys like Edwin Preencarnacion and Podrik Cast anchoring down the first line, both high-end producers last season and now the same this season. Cast is actually 1st in the league with 45 points in 22 games. Meanwhile, we have Twinger down at 34th overall in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists. This is not horrible for a rookie, but for a 1st overall being thrown into a lineup with such high end teammates, one might expect him to do better.

Leph Twinger has 20 points in 22 games, putting him in 34th for points in the VHL. He sits in the company of Beau Louth and Samuel Gate around that position in the standings, so it's not like he has been bad. Twinger was expected by many to be more of a leader right away and one of the top rookies, but that has not been the case.

In the goals category like previously mentioned, Twinger has 10. This puts him 21st overall, with both Robert Malenko and Sergei Kovalev having 10 as well. Leph Twinger was known as quite a prolific goal scorer in the VHLM, and that much has not seemed to carry over to the pros so far. One glaring statistic for Twinger is his shot percentage, which definitely is the cause of the lack of goals. Leph's shot percentage is 6.85%, which amongst the top goal scorers in the VHL is pretty low. Going up against better goalies than the VHLM he was used to, maybe it has just taken him a bit to adjust. He is definitely playing enough minutes to produce, and hopefully he will get better with time. That 6.85% actually puts him in company with some of the worst in the league.

Among rookies, Twinger is pretty far off from expectations. He is ranked 6th, and is a long shot away from 1st. Seattle Bears players Vyacheslav Smirnov and Maxim Kovalchuk lead the way with 43 and 34 points. Alvaro Jokinen has 24 points, and Robert Malenko of the Toronto Legion has 23, tied with Sergei Kovalev at 23 as well. Twinger's 20 points is much to be desired considering his draft spot. It is a wonder why he just has not gotten there yet in terms of production while being on lines with guys like Preencarnacion and Cast.

Twinger has 6 power play points, which out of his 20 overall points takes up 30% of his scoring. One would have to think that with some more PP opportunities and a better shot percentage, Leph Twinger's production will rise and he could be one of the top players in the VHL with some consistency. He definitely has the skill set to be there, but for whatever reason it has not translated to the big leagues as of this time.

I actually did create a right fielder in PBE named Riley (Rye) Tiffielder.

How’s that league doing? Wish Inwould have stayed but couldn’t continue my crazy activity and here.

Also, it had some kinks to shake out initially

Couldn't exactly tell you. There's still plenty of posts going on and it's the off-season right now. I'm not there a lot and more in a part-time capacity so I wouldn't be the best guy to ask. :P
