Team World vs. Team Asia might not have been the most hyped up game in the WJC schedule, it wasn’t a roster heavy showdown, it wasn’t as star-studded at Team Europe or Team Canada, but it was the most mentioned game on social media. Why? The Cole Mertz on Alexander Pepper rivalry was in full effect, and the two were mic’d up for the game, giving us a taste of the usual back and forth jabs at eachother. Here are some of the best moments from the Mertz/Pepper rivalry:

Both taking laps

Mertz: “Hey buddy, who are you backing up tonight?”

Pepper: “My defense.”

 

Mertz in net warming up

Pepper, at center ice: “You know, I could go bar down from here on ya.” *fakes a shot*

Mertz: “I’ve never seen a hole looser than your five hole.”

 

Pepper getting water at the bench: “You know the boys were a little nervous in the lockeroom, so I reminded them if they can score one on me, they can score three on you, no sweat.”

Mertz stretching: “You kidding me? I make you look like a shooter tutor.”

 

Pepper does a bit of a hair flick to prove a point about the “better looking” comment.

Mertz to Kastelic: “Get a load of this guy, flow’s greasier than the Detroit River.”
