Earlier today Las Vegas Aces goaltender Alexander Pepper announced that he would be hosting a goalie clinic in the team's home city this coming off-season. In doing so he called upon Halifax 21st goaltender Cole Mertz to help out as well as issued a little challenge. Pepper stated that should Mertz come out to the city for the clinic, a shootout would take place at the end where each kid would take a shot on the two of them, and whoever let's in more goals has to fulfill a currently undecided bet. We asked Mertz to comment on the incident.

"Only in Vegas do you get the kids involved in gambling haha, I'm always down to help get the younger generation into the sport. Besides, this should finally teach Pepper where he belongs, second place. Right underneath me in every stat category."

Although the pokes and jabs were to be expected, Mertz also suggested an idea for the bet.

"A little drill the coaches used to run back when I was a kid, called it 'The Gauntlet'. Whoever loses the bet has to run it in no pads with the kids from the camp, and of course I'll be waiting for him at the end."

Information on the clinic is available through UNLV and City National Arena, and is expected to run for a week during the summer.
