Like Father Like Son? - A Look At Ryan Sullivan Jr. [1/2]

To a lot of newer faces here, the member @Advantage probably only carries a certain amount of weight. They may know him from his most recent defender Lucas Novacek. Some may of stayed long enough to see his recent tenure as Cologne GM cut short when the league expanded. But I'm sure most wouldn't know the player Advantage is really known for, a name that shines bright in the Hall of Fame, Ryan Sullivan. Likely to now go down as Ryan Sullivan Senior, or alternatively Sully Sr. for short, Sullivan was likely Advantages most notable player in history. Yes he had a player in the way back when that still holds the record for most assists in a rookie season, in Michael Angelo, but Sullivan is the most complete product that has ever come out of the Advantage agency. A generational defensive talent, Ryan Sullivan played from S28-S36, is widely considered one of the best defenders in the league, likely in the top five all time. Sully Sr. won 3 Sterling Labatte trophies (back when they mattered too right Victor?) as well as a host of other individual and team awards. He only had a single Continental Cup to his name, something I'm sure Sully Jr. would like to accomplish a little more on.

Still, when a member the quality of Advantage unveils another name in such a historical family legacy, one has to have high expectations. Even  more so when you compare Sully Jr. with his father, one of the premiere players of his era. So just how does Sullivan Jr. compare to the build and potential stats of his father? Can he accomplish some of the same or even more in the league? Will we see a different style of play or player than his father? While the jury may be out on a lot of that, let's dig a little deeper and see what we can find out.

Like his father, Sullivan Jr. was born in Dallas Texas. However Sr. has the edge in both height and weight, as he was 6'8 and 250lb to the 6'6 and 220 of Jr. This height/weight difference is likely to slightly motivate the play-style as Jr. will likely pan out to be a better overall skater than Sr. One of the things that thus far seems in tact for Jr. is his ability to play without the puck. Sr. was widely known more as a two-way defender than purely an offensive player, however as his career wore on Sullivan Sr. became a pinnacle offensive talent. Given Sully Juniors overall play style, his skating speed and commitment defensive side of the puck, look for what seems to be a similar build trajectory. One of the things to note about Jr. as well is his passing ability, which coming into VHLM team training camp looked very stout.

The career projection for Sullivan Jr. is honestly as high as it can go. All signs point to this being a full forward approach from the Advantage player agency, with Sullivan Jr. looking to do even more than just follow in his fathers footsteps. While we all know those are big shoes to fill, keep and eye on Sullivan Jr. The yet to be drafted prospect could be a highlight of the Season 64 VHL Entry draft.
