TheFlash 317
Name: Hans Gruber Hometown: Frankfurt, Germany Height: 6’2 Weight: 205 Career Summary Hans started playing hockey at a young age. His father, not around due to being involved in a Christmas time plot to blow up a Los Angeles office building, made sure that Hans had a career to look forward to so he didn’t have to live the life of crime his father did. At age ten, he was noticed by Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League and put on the fast track to play for them. Always playing against players two years older than himself, he was still able to put up numbers that made many think he was one of the best players to ever come out of Germany. At the age of fifteen, Hans scored 56 goals and added 45 assists in 52 games while on loan to AIK of the HockeyAllsvenskan, the 2nd tier league in Sweden. Before coming to Philidelphia to play for the Reapers, he amassed 64 goals and 145 points in two seasons playing for Frolunda HC. Pros 1) Hockey Sense. Hans’ biggest strength is his ability to see the ice and think the game ahead of his opponents. He’s been able to play against older competition his whole life due to being able to out smart opponents. This is a skill that he has shown since a young age and he’s really built all of his other skills around it. 2) Goal Scoring Ability. Gruber has always shown a nose for the net. Good goal scorers find a way to score, and he does it in multiple ways. Not only does he have a fantastic wrist shot that’s been known to freeze goalies where they stand, he has the ability to crash the crease and clean up the garbage. He can beat goalies from all over which makes him all the more dangerous. 3) Skating. Complementing his smarts and goal scoring are his quick feet. His ability to operate at high speeds and make split second decisions makes him the most dangerous skater on the ice. Not only is his speed impressive (he won the SHL skills competition’s fastest skater contest both times he participated) but his footwork is unmatched. Weaving in and out of opponents, leaving them in the dust makes him a complete offensive threat. Cons 1) Defensive Awareness. The biggest knock on his game has always been his effectiveness in his own end. He has the size to be a force on both ends, but at just eighteen, his game has not become fully rounded. He often notes this on what he works hardest on to improve and believes it will come with age and experience. 2) Discipline. Hans isn’t a fighter by any means, but has shown to be a bit of a hot head and opponents have been able to get under his skin and draw penalties in between the whistles. Something that is seen in many young players careers, it’s believed that with experience he will learn to handle his emotions better and become more level headed. 3) Leadership. Hans lacks the needed experience to be a great leader. As great as he is, he hasn’t seen enough adversity to become a player that is looked up to in the locker room. He hopes that coming over to America and playing for an expansion team will help to develop his ability to handle the hardships that come with it all.
