Early Life

Born on December 4, 2001, in the capital city of Pyongyang to an upper class family, Parkey had the opportunity to play sports unlike many children his age in North Korea. His father, who was a president of a growing tech company who sponsored the North Korean army, was a huge hockey fan because he grew up in British Columbia, Canada. As the youngest son out of 6 Parkey was introduced to sports at a young age. His favorite became football and soccer unlike his brothers. Due to his large size at his age he played defense in soccer and linebacker in football. As a young child his brothers recall Parkey being able to keep up with them and sometimes beating them at the sports and games they played.

Family

His father, Mitch, grew up in British Columbia around the sport of hockey and obviously push his sons into the sport as well. Mitch played all over the world well getting his college degree online. Mitch Parkey made it big when his product that has a 100% on geological mapping was endorsed by the Korean military. This forced Parkey to move to Korean to get the funding for the project. Cody Parkey has five brothers Austin, Jacob, Michael, Matthew, and Evan and all played hockey at the Pyongyang Hockey Academy and were all standouts. They were all elected to the North Korean hockey team for the World Juniors and brought attention to the growing skill of North Koreans in the sport of hockey. Jacob Parkey ended up getting a contract to play in the NHL for the Montreal Canadians’ minor league team. Currently Jacob is doing very well recording 55 pts. in 67 game played. Parkey’s other brothers are all still playing in minor leagues all over the world.

High School

In high school one of his friends convince him to join the hockey team due to his massive 6”3’ frame. The sport allowed him to stay in shape for football season and he could get help from his brothers. In hockey he played defense using his large build and his great awareness from football and soccer to become a consistent starter for the varsity team throughout his three years. During the summer while visiting his uncle in Buffalo he played in a summer hockey league that allowed his talents to be seen by an American coach who was an alumni of Michigan University. The alumni talked with Parkey after stating that he could help him possibly get into MU for hockey. This made Parkey moved to the States to a hockey camp that could help his skills improve a lot more than in the Pyongyang Hockey Academy. There his talents sky rocketed. This still did not deter him from football because he still played as kicker for the academy’s hockey team. His senior year he led his team to a undefeated season and a state championship.

College

In senior year he was recruited by Auburn University to play division I football as a kicker. Parkey also got offers from Clarkson and Michigan University as a benchwarmer for hockey. Because he was offered a starting role as kicker at Auburn he decided to go to Auburn to play for the tigers. His freshman year he got hurt after falling off the roof of his house during a party before the season opener. That ended his season and he promised his coach that he would come back stronger. During the offseason he worked from 6am to 8pm and continue to grow and develop his kicking skills.  In his off time he would play hockey and keep working on his skills just in case football did not work. The next season came with some improvement as the tigers had a

.500 season. His junior season he kicked 100% of the field goals he attempted winning the Heisman Trophy. Because of his success the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un invited him to speak about how he became so good. Parkey realized the importance and capitalized by convincing Kim that starting up programs to help Korean youth get into the sport could result in more success.

NFL

After that he declared for the NFL draft. He was invited to the combine where he ran a 4.20 and bench pressing 225 lbs. 56 times, both broke the NFL record. He was drafted 1st overall to the Chicago Bears making him the highest picked special team player ever. His rookie season did not go well as he missed 12 field goals out of 26. As Chicago was  facing the Philadelphia Eagles Parkey had a chance to win the game on a 23 yd field goal, where he missed it and immediately was ridiculed throughout the league. The day after Parkey was cut from the team and Parkey saw a video on the VHL, and decided to put his hockey skills to use.

VHL

Parkey joined the VHL in February. Parkey decided to signed a 1 year, $1.5 million deal to the Philadelphia Reapers of the VHLM along side his friend from the academy, DWin  Championship, and is on the second defensive pair. So far Parkey has recorded one assist for one point. In a interview he says that he can have a fresh start in hockey and is already considering how to make it to the Hall of Fame.

Well written bio. I like the fact that you have Cody as a multitalented player who could have had a career in football but fell back on hockey instead. Makes him a much more interested character to read about. The grammar in this biography was very good and you told and explained the story well, without anything out of place or random. The only thing I noticed, and this comes from just lack of knowledge rather than poor writing, is that you said Cody signed in the VHL. Currently, he is playing in the VHLM which is like the VHL's junior league. You'll be drafted to the VHL at the end of the season. Other than that minor error though, I would give this biography an 8.5/10. Nicely done!

Review: Great bio with a lot of effort put into it. I thought your VHLM debut picture was a unique addition to the bio! Some things I think could use some work is better spacing (more space between the title and paragraphs) and in the future try making your titles stand out by making them bold or adding colour. I really enjoyed the NFL angle in the bio, it was very unique. Well done ?
