aleks 40
It's clear that there were plenty of choices on the trade blocks and the free agency market, but for some reason, General Manager Pepper zoned in on the Germanic defender, Finn Thiesmann. The Bulls defensive corps was already solid enough as it was, but Pepper made it clear mid season that there would be no room for complacency, and thus, came the arrival of Finn. He brings a much needed threat of force, despite never using his size, being a 6'9" (nice) triple threat of shooting, skating, and passing. Thiesmann can be a real dominating force, someone whos one of those truly hard players to play against, contributing in the offensive zone with a shot at the blue line, or making breakout or transition passes when going from the D zone to the neutral zone. This garnered the interest of the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, but Thiesmann went on to sign with Houston. "he's a very smart player," said fellow rookie, "I think hes got what it takes to be a superstar in this league, hes played a lot of minutes in other leagues, hes improving his game all around. Myself being a rookie I didnt get this kind of POV, where you watch a player grow in front of your own eyes, but yet, here he is." Signing mid-season may put a hamper on development, as he may not get as much time as one would usually get compared to someone who earned their spot on the lineup with months of play. That doesn't seem to worry GM Pepper though; "Yeah, I myself went over to scout him when he played international matches. My friend Alex Zajac, who's also a scout, was basically imploring me to sign him, so I did. I definitely don't regret it, I think we have a real keeper in our midst." Houston is definitely familiar with European players coming over to the VHLm, and theres always a worry as to whether or not they'll get used to less time on the ice, a smaller rink, and a more physical game. Management has done a wonderful job acclimating their prospects, such as the Sederstroms, MacElroy, and now, Thiesmann, with learning the North American style of play. This wasn't as much of a hurdle for Thiesmann though, despite not actually using his size, hes able to shrug off anyone who tries to move him off the puck. Hes able to use his weight to load up his stick and unleash a crazy shot, picking corners whenever possible. Usually you either get size or speed, but Thiesmann comes with both, so it comes to no surprise that he would attract the scouts: "As impressive as his size is, he isnt as sound in his own zone as opposed to the offensive zone. He's gonna need to shore up in that sense if he wants to move up in the lineup." -bodder prospects "Thiesmann is a big bodied defenseman who is incredibly capable when it comes to disrupting the normal tempo of the game. He's incredibly intelligent, and has good amounts of patience. He likes to be possessive of the puck to unleash a nasty shot, but he isn't afraid to dish out the puck to his forwards." future considerations 544 words Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/59798-theismann-turning-heads-at-camp-12/ Share on other sites
Renomitsu 934
Review - Nice preview of what the 6'9" (nice) Theismann can bring to the Bulls! Be careful with capitalization - it's a little inconsistent (VHLm <=> VHLM, He's vs. he's with the first quote). There are a couple of apostrophes missing too ("Bulls' defensive corps," "he's") but neither set of errors is much of a deterrent when reading. Also, 'future considerations'? What future considerations? I need to know! Nice work either way.
