Rayzor_7 741
Name: Rayz Funk Position: G Current Team: Undrafted Age: 18 Height: 6’0” Weight: 165 lbs. Birthplace: Manitoba, Canada Scout Notes (Brief) Funk is looking to make his debut at the professional level this year. A veteran goalie of the MAAAHL, Funk has a history of being middle of the pack. A broken leg kept him out of the WHL draft and resulted in him continuing in AAA. Funk was the starting goalie for the Brandon Wheat Kings Midget AAA team for the past three season and won the Manitoba AAA Midget championship this season. Funks smaller frame is compared to that of Bernier, Raanta and Dell of the NHL. Despite this small frame Funk has seen success due to his quickness in between the pipes. Funk will be looking to become a solid backup goaltender this upcoming VHLM season. He lacks experience at the professional level. However, with the VLHM Expansion, the addition of three new teams could see Funk land a starting role in his draft year. Scouting Report Strengths Rebound Control – Funk has grown up on teams that rely on physicality and more bone-headed tactics. This has resulted in him getting peppered game in and game out. He has developed a strong ability to absorb the puck and avoid giving the other teams a chance to thrash him with another shot. As with most goalies, this is especially noticeable on the penalty kill. He had killer seasons with his team averaging upwards of 85% PK% on a team that averaged 10+ penalty minutes per game. Glove Hand – Funk was a Baseball catcher until he was 15. This made him very strong on his glove hand. He prefers to take shots glove side, sometimes to the detriment of his positioning in the goal. He is quite flashy and enjoys rubbing it in opponents face when he gets a good snag. Reaction Time – All goalies need a strong reaction time, Funk has this down pat. Shots from the blueline have little chance to beat him. Funk is quik on redirects and manages to get a piece of it a lot of the time. Having a strong reaction time has allowed his small frame to work in spite of that fact. Gets across the net quickly and has a strong five hole. Weaknesses Skating – Funk seems to forget that this exists. Not uncommon for a goalie but this is pretty extreme. Lacking any pace when exiting the ice for delayed penalties. This may come from a lack of experience with this happening. Leadership – Even at the MAAAHL level, Funk lacks experience with leadership. Relationships within his teams have always been strained. Funk could be a leader with time but has generally been left out to dry on his own, leading to him trying to play on his own. Hot Headed – Funk is a bit of a hot head. He rends to get mad after the second or third goal if he feels the defence isn’t doing their job. Tends to take some penalties clearing the front of his net. He is not afraid to go after an opposition player he feels ran him or was overly annoying. He will need to learn to keep his cool at the professional level.
