Reapers Ready to Roll

PHI_bar.png

While we sit and await the beginning of the Season Sixty-Six VHLM season, expectations at high for the second year franchise, the Philadelphia Reapers. After a tough inaugural season in Season Sixty-Five that saw the Reapers win only eleven games and finished in last place in the VHLM. The one thing about finishing in last place in the league, the Reapers were able to win the VHLM Draft Lottery and came away with the First Overall draft choice in the Season Sixty-Six VHLM Dispersal draft, something that allowed them to make a big leap and start building for the upcoming season. Today we’ll look at some on the key players on the roster that the Reapers will lean on on the road to the Founders Cup.

:phi:Walter Clements (Season Sixty-Five, Thirty-First Overall)::phi:

@cpetrella

Walter Clements is a holdover from the inaugural season with the Reapers, and is looking forward to the jump the team is expecting to make in the second season in Philadelphia. Clements didn’t have a great first season in the VHLM, but a lot of that would have to do with how poor the Reapers played over the seventy-two games as a team last year. Clements didn’t let the poor first season sour his taste about playing in Philadelphia, as he kept pushing all season and practising to become a better overall hockey player. Clements wore the captaincy for the Reapers last season, and while he might not wear it in year two, he will still be leaned upon by the younger group of players in Season Sixty-Six.

:phi:Sunny Burst (Season Sixty-Five, Forty-Third Overall)::phi:

@Sunburst

Sunny Burst is another holdover from the first season the Reapers played in the VHLM, one that saw him post only three wins in the twenty-two games he appeared in net for the team. Burst used those twenty-two games to learn the nuances of the VHLM and build upon his game. Burst will be relied upon heavily in Season Sixty-Six, but will need to keep working day in and day out on his game, as the Reapers made what might turn out to be the steal of the draft when they selected Kolur Bjoernsson with the last pick of the Dispersal Draft. Burst has learned a lot from his time with the Reapers in Season Sixty-Five, but will need to elevate his game to keep his starting role in Philadelphia this season.

:phi:John Frostbeard (Season Sixty-Six, First Overall)::phi:

@FrostBeard

As with being the First Overall selection in any professional sports draft, Frostbeard will have the microscope on his play all season long. Frostbeard played in all Seventy-Two games last season with the Yukon Rush as a free agent, putting up respectable numbers with twenty-one goals and forty-eight assists in those seventy-two games. Frostbeard will be heavily relied upon to spark the Reapers offense this season, after the Reapers put up a league low 150 goals last season. Frostbeard has been working on his shooting during the off-season training, something that will hopefully help him improve on his twenty-one goals from last season. The remaining questions for Frostbead as we enter Season Sixty-Six is, will he be the second captain in Reapers history.
