With the S66 draft in the books, we go back and take a look at what the who the expansion teams took and what they look like going into free agency.

 

Mexico City Kings

 

1^st Round - 2^nd Overall: RW - Aleksander Rodriguez

1^st Round – 9^th Overall: G - Wrike Chyrnoble

2^nd Round – 16^th Overall: D - Guillaume Fontenette

3^rd Round – 29^th Overall: D - Hiromu Takahashi

3^rd Round – 31^st Overall: D - Derek England

5^th Round – 53^rd Overall: C - Eeli Harju

8^th Round – 86^th Overall: D - Codrick Past (Ineligble)

 

Mexico had a strong draft by securing five picks in the first three rounds. Mexico currently sits with three 100 TPE+ players who will be their key performers for this season.

They selected right winger Aleksander Rodriguez, who will be a strong player and will cap before the season starts. With the ninth pick they take the third goalie in the draft Wrike Chynoble. He will likely only last one season but could be enough to make them contenders. With the sixteenth pick, Mexico took Guillaume Fontenette, a strong playmaking defenceman.

               

 

Mississauga Hounds

 

1^st Round – 3^rd Overall: G - Rayz Funk

2^nd Round – 22^nd Overall: D - Hulk Hogan

3^rd Round – 33^rd Overall: LW - Cody Smith

4^th Round – 36^th Overall: C - Dan Gles

5^th Round – 55^th Overall: LW - Chett Bandy

6^th Round – 66^th Overall: C - Scott Greene

7^th Round – 77^th Overall: D - Khalabib Stiopic

8^th Round – 88^th Overall: LW - Richard Tremblay

                Mississauga had a lacklustre draft. They will be looking to make a splash in the upcoming free agency. They made some noise when they moved up to third overall, giving up a 2^nd and a 4^th to do so.

With the third overall pick they took Rayz Funk, the first goalie of four selected in the first round. He will be the cornerstone that Mississauga builds a team around this season. With the twenty-second pick, Mississauga took Hulk Hogan. This was higher than expected for a sub 100 TPE player in a deep draft. With the thirty third overall pick, Mississauga picked Cody Smith who slipped farther than he should have, considering he is a 135 TPE+ player. Cody Smith was a steal for Mississauga this late in the draft.

 

 

San Diego Marlins

 

1^st Round – 5^th Overall: C - Phil Marleau

1^st Round – 10^th Overall: LW - Edgar Tannahill

2^nd Round – 15^th Overall: G - Greg Eagles

2^nd Round – 21^st Overall: D - Samuel Sparrow

3^rd Round – 27^th Overall: RW - Andrei Mikhailov

3^rd Round – 32^nd Overall: D - Dean Clarke

4^th Round – 43^rd Overall: LW - David Clarkson

5^th Round – 54^th Overall: C - Scotty BigShotty

6^th Round – 65^th Overall: LW - Lexington Lewis

7^th Round – 76^th Overall: D - Taylor Budwaisor

8^th Round – 87^th Overall: C - Ludvig Sederstrom (Ineligible)

                San Diego had a strong draft with six picks in the first three rounds. They snagged a first-round pick from Yukon in return for their first round pick next year.

With the fifth overall pick, San Diego picked Phil Marleau. Not much is known about him as his player page is broken. With the tenth overall pick, they selected left wing Edgar Tannahill. He will likely be their strongest player and will be the focus player for them this year. With the fifteenth pick, San Diego selected Greg Eagles. He will be San Diego’s starting goalie this season and possibly next season as well. He is young but is making waves so far.

 

                With the expansion draft and the draft being complete, teams will now turn to trades and free agents to complete lines and fill out the remaining roster spots.
