Drafted at number fourteen overall by the Turku Outlaws, expectations were not high for the young Turk coming into season thirty seven. The Outlaws saw at least a defense-minded, minute-eating winger and at most a consistent compliment to a top-six line. What they’ve gotten so far is a first line, two-way road warrior who is just getting settled into his role.

Azi started the season as the first line right wing after impressing the coaching staff at training camp. During a rough start to the season that saw Ali earn only four points through his first ten games, plenty were questioning whether or not he was the one to hold the spot on the top line. The coaching staff of the Outlaws could have listened to their critics (and, according to some reports, a self-doubting Ali), yet they placed their trust in the former Brampton Blades captain and kept him in his spot.

What Turku has been rewarded with is a winger that has scored twenty one points in the eighteen games following his slump while playing over twenty minutes a night – for a total of eight goals and seventeen assists on the season. Ali’s poised to break the top ten right wings in the ‘M’ before season’s end after not registering a point in six of ten contests to begin it. In a league that regularly features the top scorers accomplishing point totals of over one hundred thirty, players have to register at least a point in every game to be considered cream of the VHLM crop. His point total doesn’t hold up so well when you look at the rest of the VHLM’s wingers (third-overall scorer Queen Latifa setting the benchmark for right wingers), but the progression is what is impressive with Turku’s second year winger.

When asked about what has made Ali so successful Turku coaching staff praised his responsible defensive game and discipline, saying that he “stuck through the tough period at the beginning of the season and made the adjustments to fit in” with the club – a reference to his heavy role with Brampton in season thirty six. Furthermore, Azi has proven to be a player that the coaches lean upon on the road swings, where he averages a point per game against his .8 points per game at home.

The personal success hasn’t translated into team success, however. Despite finding himself in the middle of a nine-point, five-game hot streak, Azi and the Outlaws have slipped in the standings. In those ten games at the beginning of the season when he scored four points the Outlaws won seven. Since then, in the eighteen games during his twenty one point burst, the Outlaws have only won nine. That’s a negative twenty percent difference in win percentage between the first part of the season and the rest, and a pretty ugly correlation for Ali.

So what does Azi Ali think needs to happen for the Outlaws to start winning more than half their games? “I need to keep playing my game, you know? I think that’s important, you know? The boys, especially Travvie [boychuk], stuck by me when I was in a funk, and I gotta stick by the team while we figure it out, you know?”

549 words. You said this was your first MS? Great job by the way. I thought you analyzed your situation well with detail and references and above all, everything flowed well and built itself up to your conclusion ending.

Grammar: 2/2

Just some corrections needed on typing out words and their proper layout. Something to look out for in your next MS.

season thirty-seven = Season Thirty-Seven

defense-minded = defensive minded

wing = winger

one hundred thirty = one-hundred and thirty

successful Turku = successful, Turku

season thirty six = Season Thirty-Six (more or less just looks better than anything)

twenty one = twenty-one

Appearance: 1/1

Center alignment and picture, maybe next time around add a title just to give it a more professional feel.
