If you want to try something a little different, put a gaussian blur filter on the background (like 1px or whatever looks best), blow up the player render so that he takes up most of the bottom right hand side, and put a gradient map over him of blue/black or blue/yellow or something. You can always put the gradient map on a lower opacity or with a different layer effect to get some cool looks.

Review:

Looks like you  had fun with this project. It is fun to try new things and see what you can do. I would agree that there are a few things you should dive into along with the other suggested methods and that is blend modes. Keep up the great work.
