Season 66 marked the first year that the Mississauga Hounds competed in the VHLM. Even though it was only their first year they ended up doing fairly well with a record of 41/26/5. This put them in the playoffs in their inaugural year. Sadly they were eliminated in 5 games by Ottawa Lynx. Let’s take a look at how the Hounds ended up doing so well in their first year.

The real stand out play has to be Callum MacElroy. The winger MacElroy ended the season with 53 goals and 54 assists for a total of 107 points. He wasn’t just the best offensive player for the Hounds but the best offensive player in the League. MacElroy was the leader in both goals and points for the entire VHLM. MacElroy’s awesome finishing power was helped greatly by his other teammates.

One of those teammates was Hulk Hogan. Hogan led the Hounds in assists with a total of 77 that season. Just like MacElroy, Hogan led the league in Assists. This passing power helped feed MacElroy. Hogan was the top defenseman in the league with a total of 94 points. While Hogan had great offensive skills he also helped the team by coming in at 10th in the league in shot blocks.

Looking back it seems the Hounds had the offensive power to make a run but lacked a solid defense. To back this up their goalie only managed to post a .888 save percentage that year. Had they tightened up their defensive game I think they could have claimed the Founders Cup in their first year. But sadly that’s not how it happened and still to this day the Hounds are still looking for that first cup.

@Cxsquared 7.8/10 You're forgetting about one of the most integral piece of that team and the clubs inaugural captain, aka.... ME.

The Hounds got off to a great start that year as I led the VHLM in goals for a good chunk of the year.
