VHL Top Single Season Point Scorers by Year

Looking at the top at the single season point record holders in the VHL from S49-S65 yields some interesting results:

It looks like there are a higher number of scorers in the earlier season, but S62 yielded a large amount of high scorers.  Perhaps that was an anomaly year, but the trend does seem to be pointing donwards in terms of scoring.

What does this mean?  is defense now a priority amongst player builds?  Are goaltenders stepping their games up?  It'll be interesting to see if any players are able to crack this exclusive top 50, as there hasn't been any since S65.

That's super interesting - I remember the period between S49 and S52 or so being seen at the time as super defense and goalie-oriented. With so many players on the list though, seems like it might have been the start of a trend that saw GAA dip even lower.

S62 was definitely an anomaly. We’ve been mostly trending down in scorers, probably from just having so many players spreading the puck around. There was just the right combination of good players and bad goalies in S62 though that created a bit of a crazy season for scoring.
