One of the best things about the VHL is the community. While we all enjoy watching our players (hopefully) succeed in the sim, none of us would be here if we didn't enjoy interacting with one other on a daily basis. Some of us have made friendships here that have gone on to real life, while others have even gone out of their way while on vacation to meet face to face. Along the way, there have been a good numbers of great members who are no longer with us (as in on the VHL, not in a morbid way). This media spot is dedicated to remembering those who joined before me who are no longer with us.

 

@Squinty - Squinty was one of my better friends on this site, and one of the few I would actually chat with on chat while I was in college. Always known as a funny guy, Squinty was a grader and head grader during a period of time when grading was an integral part of the site. In fact, I'm pretty sure Squinty was the one who hired me as a grader before eventually passing the role of Head Grader on to me. I believe his best known player was Leeroy Jenkins, who is famous for winning a VHL leading 5 Continental Cups in his 8 years of service by jumping around from team to team during free agency. I don't remember exactly when Squinty stopped showing up, but if I had to guess, I would say it was somewhere around 2015. He does visit the site from time to time, as he last visited on August 11th.

 

@sherifflobo - Sherifflobo was a quiet member around the site, but was a teammate of mine while I was on Riga. Known as a great graphic member at a time when our graphic community really was top notch, some of his creations (I believe at least) were used in an official capacity by the VHL. Sheriff was also an integral member of the VHL. I can't quite remember any of his previous players, but his last player in the league, Slaeter Fjorsstrom, was an integral member of the S35-S40ish Riga Reign. I know I said there was nothing morbid about this media spot, but Sheriff's disappearance from the league has always been one that I've been most worried about from this standpoint. While most members either slowly fade into leaving or make some sort of announcement, Sheriff just stopped showing up on October 7th, 2014 during the peak of his player's career and while earning maximum TPE. 

 

@Jamie - Some of you may know Jamie more as a founding member/the founding member of GOMHL, but before that, Jamie was a  very vocal member of the VHL. I believe Jamie may have been an updater or been a part of the old graphic cut crew, but she never held a "higher up" position. Instead, Jamie is best remembered as being a shit-stirrer, but in a positive way. Anyone who's read some of my previous work knows that I miss some of the old rivalry between teams, and Jamie was great at shit talking but keeping it VHL related and not getting personal. Jamie's best player was Brennan McQueen, who captained Riga for all 8 seasons of their career. Jamie last visited the site on January 8th, 2017, but looking at her post history, she wasn't active since 2016. Fun fact - Jamie actually pitched GOMHL to me in chat one night and asked if I wanted to help her run it, but I turned it down since I didn't think the concept would work and I wasn't interested in joining. In additional to GOMHL, Jamie had at least one, if not two kids by the time she left, which I'm sure helped keep her away from here.

Sheriff was a bit of a Riga lifer - Kristian Carlsson (of gold medal record fame with Scandinavia) and Miles Larsson before Fjorsstrom.

 

I know before he left he seemed to get caught up in the blossoming conspiracy theory coming out of Riga about my GMing Davos + commishing (we also had Jardy simming on the team), although I can't imagine that would be a reason to never show his face again. So yeah, not sure what happened to him.

Yeah I remember Jamie asking me if I wanted to GM in the GOMHL but I turned it down at the time just cause I wasn't ready to GM in a hockey league yet. I think she'd probably be a pretty big fan of the way TPE/Welfare works now though given I seem to remember she was one of the members who wasn't happy when we got rid of the welfare boost in the player store (can't properly remember but I think that specific change was the one that led to her inactivity)

The only person who actually believe that was probably Jamie, with Mike being 50/50...and maybe Austin too since he was like 12.

Well there was also firestarter #1 in your LR.

 

But yeah, I don't think it ever got too far. I just know I saw sheriff mention it which was annoying as I knew he knew better and we actually got along.
