Feels like its been forever since I moved to Riga but in reality, its been around a couple of weeks now. The regular season has ended since I last time released a blog entry, Riga played well towards the end - won nine games out of last ten and the only loss during that run was in the shootout, so we managed to head into playoffs with full confidence. In the playoffs we got a tough task right away, Helsinki in the first round.

Helsinki finished just behind us in the regular season with 95 points, normally you would maybe feel bit bad for not finishing first in the standings, so you could avoid Helsinki and get the 4th team, but in our division that 4th team was Davos with 90 points in the regular season - not an easy road in the playoffs this year.

Playoffs started with two home games, we managed to win the first one 3-1, professional performance there, but I don´t know what happened after that. Helsinki came into game two with fire in their bellies, they beat us badly - Helsinki won game two 5-1 and made the series 1-1. At that point, it was Helsinki´s turn to host the next two games.

Game three was a bad one for us, Helsinki played as we did in game one, they shut us down completely and won 3-0. Titans now had 2-1 lead and game four is on their home ice, talk about a huge game coming up. We knew we had to win that game and make it 2-2. Game four was war, nothing came easy when both teams did all they can to avoid making mistakes and taking risks, Dahlberg scored the only goal of the game around halfway point of the game, 1-0 win for Riga and series is at 2-2 - a huge relief for us.

Game five was back in Riga again, tight game, but bit more scoring than in the previous one, game was 2-2 after 60 minutes and goes without saying both teams wanted to have that 3-2 lead in the series, luckily for us and fans of Riga, Dahlberg had his scoring stick with him again, he scored the game-winner in OT.

Now we had this series in our hands, all the pressure on Helsinki, but game six was in Helsinki, so it was never going to be an easy game. McWolf scored 1-0 on the PP in the first period, Helsinki worked hard and finally got the reward early in the third period when Wilson tied the game. 1-1 after 60 and once again overtime is calling.

Unfortunately for Helsinki, Svoboda scored 2-1 goal and sent Helsinki golfing, we go through to the next round!

Intense first round, I must admit that things looked pretty bad after game three when Helsinki first won game two 5-1 and then 3-0, but one game at a time after that. I think those OT goals and ability to keep games close promises good things for us when we keep going forward in this year's playoffs - Riga is ready to play.
