Smarch 3,153
Americans fans hoping for playoff hockey With the New York Rangers making the playoffs again in the National Hockey League, hockey fans in the Manhattan area are hoping for another hockey team to bring playoff hockey their way again this year. The New York Americans currently sit only three points ahead of the Seattle Bears with just nine games remaining on the season, a slim margin that has gotten smaller over the last few games. The Americans and their young roster have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to reach the post-season for the first time in three seasons and today we'll take a look at the progress the team has made over the season to make it to the point they are in now. Odin Tordahl The eldest member of the Americans roster, Tordahl who came from last season's Victory Hockey League champions brought his championship attitude to the Americans this season. With two Continental Cup wins under his belt in his young VHL career Tordahl knows what it takes to win the big one in the VHL. Tordahl has been a leader on the ice as well during Season Thirty-Seven, leading the Americans and the entire league in goals with forty-six and in points (102). Tordahl signed a long-term contract before the season started so America fans will be heading to the arena to be watching Tordahl light up the lamp for the next four seasons. Tom Slaughter The rookie center-man has had quite the impact on the club after being plugged in on the team's top line. Slaughter started out the season a bit slow as he had a bit of trouble adjusting to the speed of the VHL, but the young American has come into his own as of late. Slaughter has jumped to quite a sizable lead in the rookie scoring race in the last week of play with his twenty-two goals and fifty-one assists over sixty-three games this season. Slaughter has also been a rock on the defensive side of the puck as well, leading the team with a plus minus of +38. Slaughter will be a looked upon to be a key contributor for the Americans on the team's first line, alongside Tordahl for the next few seasons. Brick Wahl The Americans goaltender has played solid in front of what could be considered a rocky defensive core most games. Wahl has played in fifty-five games for the club this season putting up a 31-21-3 record, with a .921 save percentage and 2.19 goals against average. Wahl is still coming into his own and his game is evolving each game, so with that management knows that with the good comes the bad. Wahl has posted some great individual performances against the top tier teams in the league while also posting some sub .800 save percentage games as well this season, but the team's confidence in the young net-minder has never waned. Wahl will need to bring his bet in his next eight games if the team expects to make the post-season. Xin Xie Xiao The Season-Thirty Six draftee is finally starting to come into his own for the Americans, after he fell to them Third Overall in that before-mentioned draft. XXX came into the league billed as a power forward that could also but the puck into the back of the net. XXX is currently second on the Americans in goals with thirty-six and third in points with seventy-five. XXX has also been throwing his weight around again this season with 194 hits already in sixty-three games. Although XXX is having a good regular season campaign, look out for him if the Americans do end up taking the final North American Conference playoff position. Fire Tortorella 2,653
Content: 3/3 - It came down the wire with the Americans and the Bears, and while we obviously know the outcome now, it was an exciting race between these two teams all season long. While it obviously sucks for NY to not make the playoffs this season, they should be prime contenders in the North American Conference next season. Grammar: 2/2 - A couple mistakes with nothing remotely major. Tordahl who = Tordahl, who...champions, America fans = American fans be a looked upon = be looked upon his bet = his best Third Overall = third overall Appearance: 1/1 - Very nice.
