Is Thorvald Gunnarsson gunning for A Red Guy's spot?

Recommended Posts

When the New York Americans selected A Red Guy in the first round of the Season 68 draft, there was some surprise, considering the team housed a talented goalie in Thorvald Gunnarsson in the organization already. Gunnarsson didn’t have A Red Guy’s pedigree but he showed steady improvement and his presence resulted in A Red Guy starting less than the expected slate of 64 games for a starting VHL goalie. It could be argued that Gunnarsson was better than his counterpart in their rookie seasons, and he posted a much better record than A Red Guy as well. Now, eight games into Season 69, New York finds themselves in the middle of the North American Conference fray with a 3-3-2 record. A Red Guy has started six of those games, posting a solid .924 save percentage, but has gone just 1-3-2 as the starter. Meanwhile, Thorvald Gunnarsson has won both of his starts, once again getting off to a better start in the wins department. There is a growing group among New York American fans that want to see the team turn to Gunnarsson full time, and if things continue trending the way they have, it’s definitely a possibility, as the Americans are hoping to compete for a playoff spot this season.

Maybe they were just bad matchups. A Red Guy is playing rock solid so I wouldn’t mess with that until it starts to seriously hurt their record.
