Berocka 2,263
Thank you to the great work of Corco found here. We can see where each country ranks in the VHL, there is also the IIHF rankings in real life. With Australia sitting pretty in 9th spot for the VHL and me not knowing if we even have an national team for ice hockey I thought it would be interesting to compare the rankings between the IIHF in real life and what they are as per Corco's Media Spot. Only one country had the same ranking on both lists and that is 6th place with United States of America. So one thing you can all be thankful for this weekend is consistency. Next I will look at the highest ranking countries that do not appear on the other list. The highest ranking team on the real life boards that aren't on the VHL rankings is Kazakhstan, this sort of surprised me as with Borat being from here I thought there might be more "meme" remakes that are from Kazakhstan. But that hasn't happened Kazakhstan is ranked 19th in the real life IIHF rankings and is non-existent in the VHL ones. The highest ranking team the other way around is Ireland, they are ranked 4th in the VHL rankings and do not appear in the IIHF. After some quick research it appears that they dropped out of IIHF tournaments in 2014 and then have been in a development tournament the past two years. Now the part you have all been waiting for which are the biggest differences... The team that has the worst representation in the VHL compared to real life is Norway. Norway sits in 11th spot in the real life rankings but only manages 52nd in the VHL rankings meaning they drop a total of 41 places. And the big winner, which starting this I thought could be Australia. But was unfortunately not as they just beat them by one spot. The winner is Hong Kong! Hong Kong is placed 19th in the VHL rankings and is placed 46th in the real life rankings. This is a difference of 27 spots all because of the hard work of Wilcox and Chan. If you would like to see all the numbers see below. Thank you for @Corco who did all the hard work.
