What's Next For Landry II?

HALIFAX - For the duration of his brief VHL career, Thomas Landry II has had virtually complete control of it. From getting to decide where to sign to how many practice hours he got, the young Season 71 prospect has been in the driver's seat so far. But with the Saskatoon Wild ending the Halifax 21st's season last night courtesy of their 7-3 series-clinching win in Game Five, that all has suddenly changed.

"After I clean out my locker, my career is about to go in a very different direction," said Landry in the visiting locker room following the loss. "I go from being a member of the Halifax 21st to a draftee. I could end up anywhere in the VHLM now."

For now, all Landry II can do is wait. The Founder's Cup Finals is not yet set, with the Mexico City Kings and the Mississauga Hounds still duking it out for the right to face Saskatoon. The completion of the VHLM season will set the stage for the Season 70 VHLM Dispersal Draft, one in which Landry will more than likely find a new home. Current draft projections have ranked him at 15th, an early second round pick if the draft were to follow said projections. Multiple VHLM, such as Ottawa, San Diego, Houston and Las Vegas possess multiple second round picks, making them likely destinations for Landry. Halifax, however, is not among them.

"Halifax doesn't have their first or second round pick anymore," said Landry following the game. "However, this is a pretty deep class. As a projected second round pick, perhaps a return to Halifax isn't out of the question, but it does seem unlikely. I would prefer not to leave, but unfortunately, that's the business side of hockey. Halifax used their picks to set up trades that got us to this point. Unfortunately, we couldn't reward those moves with a championship. I'll get another chance next year, hopefully it can be here in Halifax, but I'm going to give it my all regardless of where I go in the draft."

Additionally, Landry's hard work has his VHL Draft stock on the rise. After tying for the highest amount of practice hours with 59 in the most recent update, he is now ranked 9th in the Season 71 VHL Draft rankings.

"I can't lie, that felt great," said Landry II with a smile on his face. "Hard work is the only thing that I have control over right now, so it felt fantastic to see that recognized. There are a lot of great prospects in that class, so for me to be sitting at 9th, it really validates all of the hard work I've put in to improve. Best yet, I still have another full season to build upon that. Being a first round pick is definitely a goal I have set for myself, so I'm going to keep up the max effort to make sure that happens."

As his Season 69 (nice) campaign comes to a close, one thing is very clear for Thomas Landry II: his confidence is at an all-time high as he faces the uncertainty of his future.
