FrostBeard 2,061
Trade Details D.C. Dragons Receive: D Elasmobranch Fish Toronto Legion Receive: S70 RIG 2ND S71 MOS 3RD Analysis An interesting trade as it shows a young team in D.C. adding strong talent that will help them in a playoff push next season. With a youthful defensive core of Johnson, Valentino and Drumm and now a strong leader in Fish, Dragons are putting themselves on a road to success. An understandable move by Toronto as it seems they haven’t been able to keep Fish active and interested enough to spend extra hours improving himself. A bit of a letdown considering how highly touted this player was when he was drafted by Calgary in S65. For Toronto, this is a start of a rebuild and if done correctly could result in them becoming a powerhouse in North American conference for seasons to come. With the ageing team in Vancouver and Seattle, we could see a new team emerge and be the dominant force. Get-to-Know the Players Elasmobranch Fish Drafted by Calgary in S65, the former 6th overall pick came into the league with a strong showing of the offensive and defensive game and basically carried Calgary’s defensive core. His sophomore season was nothing to really write home about, an average season on a struggling Calgary team. His best season, S67, was a great resurgence of what you should have expected from Elasmobranch Fish. He finished the season with 62 points, his career-high and had a very disciplined season as he finished with less than 100 PIM. After a lacklustre season for Calgary, Fish was traded to Davos as a way to shake things up on a team that on paper should have been a top 3 team in VHL. A disastrous season for Fish as he just couldn’t find his game in Davos. That pushed Davos GM to trade Fish to Toronto in the off-season. Another small resurgence there and Fish again finished the season with over 50 points and over 100 blocked shots. I guess the question then is - can Fish be a true first pairing defenceman or will he struggle and be pushed down to the bottom of the food chain?
